Question Virgin Media Branded Modem?

Anyone got any ideas on whether we will be getting a Virgin Media branded modem soon? Will they just rebrand the ntl:250 or will it be a new modem?

Re: Virgin Media Branded Modem?

Once the current stocks of modems in each region are exhausted, new installs and modem swaps will take place with a black Virgin Media branded modem, which will be an Ambit 255. It's basically the same as the 250, but only has Ethernet.

No, but it physically looks the same except it's black.

Re: Virgin Media Branded Modem?

Thanks for your help.

I might as well wait until more of these modems are available and then get an engineer to swap out my ancient Terayon.

It is EXACTLY the same apart from the fact that its black and lacks a USB port.

Oh and the ntl:250 is the best cable modem I have ever used, so I don't know how you come to the conclusion that its a cheap piece of crap.

Thanks for the link

I will be keeping my Terayon as long as it continues to work, but I've heard when my area gets upgraded to Qam256, it will no longer work. So, I might have to get one of these new modems.

Re: Virgin Media Branded Modem?

I upgraded everything yesterday, new V-box and a modem to replace the STB for 10Mbps. The modem is the Ntl 250 which looks exactly the same as the new black Virgin modem, the Virgin one doesn't have USB connectivity neither does it come with a stand, hence it has a bigger footprint. As the V-box is bigger than the old STB I was pleased to be able to stand the modem vertically. Both modems support 40Mbps+ and as the 250 is very dark blue the colour's not a problem.

The new Virgin modem is stated to be available from Febuary. ...Did you enquire as to why you hadn't recieved the new modem?

No, I didn't think to ask but I'm happy with the Ntl one because I can stand it up and save space I guess they need to get rid of the old ones first.

Re: Virgin Media Branded Modem?

Warning noobie question comming!

Just reading the specs on the new modem it says that it supports 42.8mbits down as the max. If and when we get 50mbit this means that all the customers will need competely new modems. Why not start giving customers out modems that are capable of 50mbits so when the upgrade happens they don't have to replace all the modems?

I guess it's a question of how fast do you want to go or need to even; not every customer will find a need for 50Mbps.
