How does this work then?
Hello.
I have been thinking of getting a '360, and seeing as I have a 10mb (soon to be 20mb *hopes*) connection, I was thinking of doing quite a bit of online gaming.
What else will I need apart from the '360, a game, and the VM modem? What is this XBL Gold/Silver thing I heard in passing? What does one have that the other doesn't?
Sorry to ask these questions, but I am i'll, I had a really bad night's sleep, and Google is being a git!

Re: How does this work then?
You'll need an RJ45 crossover cable to connect the Xbox to the modem. The Live memberships are as follows;
Silver - Allows access to marketplace to download demos, extra content, media and arcade games. This membership is the default and is free although you'll need to buy points with a credit card to exchange for most of the content. No online gaming with this option.
Gold - This is the membership you pay for (monthly or you can buy 12 months up front) as an upgrade to the silver and this adds the ability to play multiplayer games online, in addition to the above, so this is what you'd need.

Re: How does this work then?
So... I'd have to pay for my BB and the privelidge to play online?!
Bit bloody cheeky!
How much would a gold sert me back per month? I see GAME are offering 12 months upfront for £39.99, but is it much more per month?
Also, there might be a time where I won't play for a while, and if I did it monthly it could mean I can start paying next time I play, right? Or is there a minimum contract?

You have 2 options, either buy it as a 3 month membership or 12 months.
3 month Gold membership £12.99 (this is a very expensive option over a year)
12 month Gold membership £34.99 (by far the cheapest option over a year)
Gold and Silver membership levels are explained here.
You can also buy 2100 points here for £16.99 which allows you to buy arcade games and gamer pictures etc.
If you want to go wireless with Xbox Live then you should get the XBox 360 Wireless Adaptor costing £54.99 assuming you have a wireless router that is. This then allows you to use the computer at the same time as the Xbox 360 if you wish.

Re: How does this work then?
Right, thanks.
If I ever get around to buying one (Going to mean borrowing money short-term), I will get a 3-month plan at first, and go from there.

Re: How does this work then?
When you get the console i believe you get one month free trial of gold when you register / setup the account. You can also pay it monthly which i think is either 4.99 or 3.99 i cant remember, but you can stop and start that.

It's well worth it. Seriously. It's only 40 quid over a year... and as already posted, you can get it cheaper.
Get yourself a 360, Gears of War, & a Gold Xbox Live trial, & you'll see

Re: How does this work then?
Oooh.... good point.
Hopefully it isn't someone's knackered "Ring of Death" 360.

Well it's listed as being only a few weeks old, and considering that, and 4 games, costs the same as just 1 new console, I was prepared to risk the postage costs.
