Now and Next bar not working

Hi

I've had this problem for about a month but not got round to doing anything about it yet.

basically i keep finding the now and next bar just doesn't work. Either it gets stuck on data that is several hours old, or all the channels list the same programme or even worse it just comes up and it is empty

i do have BB through the STB and think this could be part of the problem but i've had that for ages and the now and next used to work before

anyone else had anything like this ? I guess i need to log a call in the end though

Re: Now and Next bar not working

Everytime this happened to me I used the same old thing to cure it...

Power off the STB for 30-40 seconds then power back on. After a minute or so (Old PACE STB) it would all be ok.

Hope this helps.

Re: Now and Next bar not working

I had a Pace box and a Samsung - it used to happen more with the Pace box than the Samsung, and as Dogleg says, a reboot used to cure it.
Are you on the old NTL/Telewest programme guide, or have you migrated to the new VM EPG yet?

Re: Now and Next bar not working

Hi,

I'm exactly the same.
Samsung 2100c
BB via STB.
blue NTL guide

Since Xmas Now and Next are consistently not working or sticking at the moment.
Tried rebooting but it tends to upset the kids who are on the internet at the time, Whoops!. So I've just learned to live with it

Getting a V+ box this weekend so hopefully that will be better.

Re: Now and Next bar not working

We've been having problems with the guide since the end of January. When we had an engineer come round due to freezing channels, he mentioned that this would be fixed through an "update download in the next few days".

It's now over a month and still having constant problems (at least once a day). Called Virgin Media again today (got through to an Indian call centre), the CS agent said he'd send a signal down to the box (after not finding area faults) and if after two hours it wasn't fixed should call back and an engineer will be arranged (This was only after mentioning that we've been having a faulty Guide since and of Jan).

After two hours, still wasn't working, so called back. Again I got through to an Indian call centre, the poor guy couldn't understand what i was saying had to repeat my reason for calling about three time (as if i was explaining it to a toddler). Finally after he understood what was the problem he agreed to arrange a techie to come round.

I just hope that something gets done about it, because with our luck, when the techie comes everything will work fine, then once he is gone things will cock up again.

Oh yeh, some information:
Set-top Box: Pace 4010
EPG: ex-ntl:
Region: Cambridge CB1 postcode area (Virgin Media Langley)

I will do.

I too am waiting for the Virgin EPG. When the last engineer told us about "update download" back at the end of January that would fix the Guide (as mentioned in my previous post), i assumed it'll be the Virgin EPG. But no luck yet.

Re: Now and Next bar not working

You can force the box to update to the Virgin EPG:

1. Unplug the mains.

2. Hold down <, CH ^, >

3. Plug the mains back in keeping the buttons held down.

4. After about 10-20 seconds you can let go of the buttons.

It should say the STB is updating and the display on the front of the cable box will be counting. After a while the box should be updated.

I followed these instuctions on my Samsung SMT-2110c about a month ago and got the Virgin EPG.

I would however, at the moment a forced update only loads the Virgin EPG on Samsung SMT_2110c V-Boxes. The Software is yet to be rolled out to the rest of the boxes.

Re: Now and Next bar not working

the force update will only work if the software has been rolled out to your area.. as i'm at Bromley this is usually the last area done anyway and so I will only get the NTL EPG again

another thing i get as well when the now and next bar goes is that the sound becomes out of synch.. usually on BBC1 or BBC2 only though

Re: Now and Next bar not working

I've had same problem. Called CS and they said that it might be because my box is downloading the new EPG and it could take up to 7 hours. They also said this could be the reason why my On demand goes to black every 10 mins or so.

I've given it 3 days now and it's sometimes okay, but it's not really what I'd call usable as it gets stuck when I flick past 3 channels or more.

I've got an old PACE box and am in the Romford area. From what I can see from the other post about EPG rollout, I'm not due for a while so I guess I was just being blagged.

Re: Now and Next bar not working

i've going to try a force update tonight.. not sure if it will fix the problem as I don't think the VM software is in my region yet but it can't really make it any worse

Re: Now and Next bar not working

Update regarding the faulty MiniGuide.

When i called VM again today about the engineer booking, i was today told that there was a national fault with the Guide service since about January. Apparetly this should be fixed at 9am on 20th March 2007.

What i find odd is that on my many calls regarding the Guide not working, they CS agent always "checked" to see if there were any network/system faults, and there were always none. So howcome i'm only told now that there has been a fault since January? Sounds weird to me.

Re: Now and Next bar not working

well i tried a force update and it started to update.. but then near the end I get on err95 so it looks like something is wrong.. anyway I didn't get the now and next problems last night and the sound was in synch too..

doub it has been fixed.. I suspect the old NTL and TW epg will remain broken and they are just waiting to roll out the new VM one that is fixed
