Slow Channel Change

Is anybody else experiencing slow channel change on their V+ box? This happens both when I type in the channel number directly, or when I'm scrolling through the miniguide and press OK to select a channel. There seems to be a delay in the box responding, and the new channel doesn't appear for a good 3-4 seconds, compared to my Samsung which responds instantly and changes within 1 second.

This is starting to get really frustrating, as channel flicking is a tedious process.

Re: Slow Channel Change

Mine takes a couple of seconds, which is ok. Any longer than this and it would be a pain so I can understand your frustration.

Mine the same and while the engineer was here I picked up on it to which he said that it was because it was being updated with my channels and it would get faster when it has finished 2 weeks later still slow.Maybe we just gonna have to live with it for a while and hope it gets better your right its annoying!

Re: Slow Channel Change

This is one of the main problems with the box at the moment, a firmware upgrade will hopefully fix this in the near future.

Re: Slow Channel Change

engineer told me its due to the box automatically recording the channel when you jump to it, this allows u to pause live tv etc.

Re: Slow Channel Change

That would make sense, but surely it would be better for it to do that once the channel has been tuned to, rather than elongating the tuning process.

I flicked up a channel earlier - the miniguide data changed immediately, the previous channel stayed tuned for 2 seconds, then I had a blank screen for 2 seconds and then it tuned to the next channel up.

Nearly 5 seconds - that's not on.

I spoke to Faults just now, she tried sending a hit to the box. I knew this wouldn't work, but I let her carry on anyway. She couldn't suggest anything else apparently.

As said above, hopefully a software update might address this - does anyone know when the next software upgrade is planned for??

No that would not work because you would still end up with another pause when it start writing to HD and playback from HD.

The best way to do it would be to write to a memory buffer, playback from buffer could start very quickly as the IO to HD would not slow it down. When the buffer fills the data is sent to the HD. I guess it depends on the HW/SW.

The other thing could be that you have a full HD and the system has to delete something off the HD before it can start writing ? This might slow it down...

Re: Slow Channel Change

hi
the slow channel change is down to deley tv function when u change channel the old data needs to be deleted and "closed" on the hard drive ready to start recording of the next channel it may get quicker in the future but cant ever see it being as fast as the normal boxes unless they build a option to stop delay tv

When did you get Vbox ? I got I new box when moving home last month, the engineer forget take remote control with the box, and old remote control works much faster than new one. So, you need to call Virgin and complain that V+ works to slowly ,and don't say anything about remote control I don't think they belive that all about it.
