Talking a quick question...

i was thinking of changing from tiscali to virgin. at the min im on up to 8 megs and was wondering how virgins 4 meg would hold up against my up to 8 meg in terms of speed and reliability ? is the 4 meg about the speed i would really get from my up to 8 megs ? it drops speed at random times durning the day, sometimes slowing to about what i was getting on the 1/2 meg i had with ntl ages ago lol i have a 360 and would like to have a nice steady speed to use to play games with while my 'better' half surfs the net (which usualy makes my 360 connection go nuts lol)

thanks

Re: a quick question...

You would probably find the upload speeds are very different which may affect how you can use the connection.

Re: a quick question...

At the moment you are on UP TO 8 MEGS and so you speed can be anywhere between dial up and (realistically) 6 Megs. To find out you speed you must do a series of speed test over a period of time. In general many customers get around 4 Megs.

The speed is controlled by the length/quality of the BT line and also by contention so don't be surprised if the speed varies significantly from test to test.

Without this data no comparison can be made.
