Virgin on getting ITV on VOD; Sky One

From MediaGuardian (http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcas...017360,00.html)

Quote:
Virgin's head of content, Malcolm Wall, suggested negotiations may have been muddied by last year's attempt to merge with ITV - a move thwarted by BSkyB.

"We were having positive discussions with them but me and others probably complicated our relationship with them," said Mr Wall, who was the architect of the planned £9bn merger between ITV and what was then known as NTL.

Virgin is also locked in talks with Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB to renew a soon-to-expire deal for the satellite giant to supply it with Sky One. Mr Wall said that barring any surprises, hit shows 24 and Lost would not go off-air mid-season and that talks were continuing.

Describing meetings so far, Mr Wall resorted to a boxing metaphor: "There have been some low blows but no-one went down like Audley Harrison. Both sides are negotiating in good faith."
Okkkayyyy.....VC doesn't have content from Five either - why no fuss about that????

Looks like Sky One isn't going anywhere......and come to think of it, Sky didn't bombard us with their pleads to beg Virgin to keep Sky One on air last weekend, did they?

I thought all along this was about posturing during negotiations. They may be competitors but in the end they have to rub along together in the same market.
Sky must realise that dropping sky one out of spite wouldnt exactly endure them to Virgin customers. Sky must also be taking a close look at the rash of new content virgin bringing online so soon after launch date.

I made this request yesterday to another forum member - Copying *whole* articles from other sites is a copyright breach - Whilst it is appreciated that new news is posted on the forum - usually the first opening paragraph followed by the link to the source is sufficient.

Sorry, didn't get the memo.

I've edited my original post and provided a link (free registration required).
