TV freezing

Anyone any ongoing problems in the Glasgow area over the last 3 weeks. Our STB, when you take it out of standby, starts freezing the picture and sound, then unfreezes, then freezes. After about 2 hours it starts to function normally. Tonight however we lost all picture/sound altogether. It's a pace box. Can't get anything at all. Have called fault centre and they have said someone will come out on Tuesday afternoon to look at box. Now here's the strange thing - all the BBC sites BBC1, News24 etc were all fine. When you switch it on sometimes it just sits at the "updating your box" screen for 30 mins or until you get fed up and switch it off and on again when it gets a bit further and you get the broken motion picture.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

The guy on the other end of the phone said it sounds like a faulty box then starts giving the "£25 if the engineer comes out and can't find anything wrong with it" story. It'll just be my luck he'll switch it on on Tuesday and it will work.

I'm hoping this story sounds familiar to someone who can enlighten me.

Re: TV freezing

We have rebooted for about the 40th time tonight and now have a picture that is settled but the box has been on for a couple of hours so it is following a pattern.

Lets see what Tuesday brings - they are going to refund me from today till Tuesday which I would expect - however it only took this suggestion from me and they were happy to do so immediately. No haggling for a change.

Re: TV freezing

I had the same problem over a year ago, it turned out to be a mismatch betwen the viewing card and my account settings. I could watch all the free channels, but a variable amount of time on the premium channels before it locked. I assumed that the STB was calling home every now and again to check that I had a legal card and hence the locking of the channels once it could not match my card. Sad problem was that NTL could not fix it for me, so joined $ky. But have just signed up the new VIP package as I believe NTL have got better since I left.

Re: TV freezing

Suddenly started to see a really slow response to commands to a Pace STB in Peterborough. I've rebooted several times, but it's not improved. The sound was out of sync on VOD (TV pick of the week), and I've always had the picture drop momentarily when watching VOD. I'm guessing that the Pace boxes are just not up to spec for the services now on offer?

Re: TV freezing

Since the 8th my Pace box has been having realy trouble, freezing on the channel (though still playing the channel), miniguides showing the wrong info, taking forever to follow a command. I've rebooted tons and it doesn't really make much of a difference, so I suspect it's just not coping with whatever upgrades they sent through. Luckily I'm getting V+ next Thurs and that's the box I'm replacing, so not too worried (though it's also the box I record from so it's a bit frustrating programming it at the moment).

The Samsung box I had to reboot once on the 8th, but since then it's been totally fine - coping with all well.

Re: TV freezing

Yes I have noticed that our TV picture "jumps and freezes" every so often, but what is worse is that load "cracking" noise that comes with it, I keep thinking my TV is going to explode?
We have the TY Drive box from Telewest, in fact we use all of their services

I did phone them up, but never really got a satisfactory answer, kept being transferred to different departments

(I did try changing the batteries in the remote control,(before it was suggested by staff at the call centre) but no difference)
