BeBroadband Unlimited Speed Issues

I ordered this service and connected on the first week of this year, about a month ago. Previously I was using BT adsl 2mbps and got a good speed of 230-240 Kilobytes/second (Full speed would be 256KBps so I was glad) and I never had a problem with disonnections.

Since I connected with Be, the modem reported I was synchronizing at 14mbps downstream and 1.3mbps upstream, I saw the statistics after seeing a flashy 24mbps all over the setup manual and adverts before I connected but seeing as the straight distance to my nearest exchange is about 930 kilometers, 14mbps isn't too bad (although in the FAQ they promised 20-24mbps to anyone less than a kilometer from the exchange, 15-mbps to 1km+++)

So I make a few different speed tests, all servers based in London and yield results only up to 5.5mbps? I wasn't able to download at over 700 KBytesps? My current download speed is like 40% of what it's meant to be synchronizing at with upload speed at an also sluggish 60% of true synch speed (85 KBytesps instead of 1.3megabits)

Internal setup is [from the 1st BT phone line] 10meter BT phone line extension cord to the PC room, there it divides with an ADSL microfilter supplied with the Be modem, BT Phoneplug straight to the Phone. RJ11 DSL cable from the microfilter straight to the modem. Modem is connected to the PC using USB 2.0 cable.

I can't use an ethernet cable because it never seems to connect to the final ''RoutedEthoA" Internet service using the supplied cat-5 (i also tried the crossover ethernet cable I bought from Maplins and another from the Xbox360 premium package) so that isn't an option.

Not only speed issues fellas, I'm getting frequent disconnections, not only irregular random disconnects, if anyone even as to slighly touch the phone line near the microfilter; the DSL service would disconnect completely, queueing a reboot of the modem, meaning up to 5 minutes of my time wasted every time it disconnects. This wasn't the case with my previous BT Voyager modem, didnt disconnect once and I'm using the same equipment other than the microfilter and modem they supplied. (And for the record, I tried using the old BT microfilter I was using but I encounter the same problems)

But touching the line slightly isnt the only cause of disconnections, BitTorrent programs seem to disconnect the DSL service completely if too many connections to different peers are established, I would simultaneously connect to many more users on Bittorrent clients and achieve full speeds with my old BT 2mbps service without being disconnected even once, I dont remember one instant where I disconnected without my physical interference.

Now I've spoken to the Be customer services and they slowed down my speed from 14mbps down and 1.3 up, to now:

Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,092 / 10,514

Supposedly they turned on a more ''Stable'' profile. What am I meant to think? I disconnect more than ever with no physical or torrent related interference and obviously still maintain a ''Ludicrously fast speed" of 5.5mbps.

What should I do? I've had it with the horrible service and I've barely been able to stay online to make this post I had to use Notepad!

Although the PC reports the USB port would transfer information to and from the modem at 12.0mbps, would using USB slow down the speed?

(P.S I've also tried putting the PC off completely and connected my Xbox360 directly to the modem using ethernet and was able to achieve a very stable connection but I wasn't able to test speed, I'm sure the ethernet ports on the modem work fine.

I'm using a Thomson SpeedTouch 780 supplied with the BeBroadband service and an Intel PRO/100 VE Network card

I appreciate ANY help you guys can offer, thank you for reading!

Re: BeBroadband Unlimited Speed Issues

Unlplug everything un-needed from the lines, if possible plug directly into the test socket or first socket on your BT line, make sure you have the proper micro-filters on and see what happens. Have you asked for a line test?

Re: BeBroadband Unlimited Speed Issues

Thanks for your reply, I'm camping at this thread cause I'm testing everything I can do at the moment, I'm so frustrated lol. I don't know what you mean by a Line test, if you mean network tests like TCP/IP and packet management, it's all optimised.

I could try moving the PC temporarily next to the 1st BT Phone line in the other room (A kitchen I might add....) but it can't be there forever. If I find that it's faster without the long line extension I can't really do anything about it cause it can't stay in the kitchen lol. It's an ordinary BT line extension that I bought like 1 or 2 years ago... I wouldnt think there would be a high graded copper in a high-end extension cable that would improve speeds? If so, I guess that would improve speeds but... my biggest bet is that the USB cable is slowing things down.

Re: BeBroadband Unlimited Speed Issues

Just need it there to test it to make sure it isn't the extension or internal wiring. Check all cables you can replace or guarantee as working. Do you get any line noise when making phone calls or any problems with echo etc?
