Yup...

Sam Knows

Type in your phone number/postcode, and then click BT ADSL on the results page. It will tell you how far you are from your exchange, and your expected speeds.

Re: Distance to local exchange

TBH I've not used samknows to check distance to my exchange, so took the OP's word for it, that it was a phone number checker, and not a postcode checker. I'm not sure if Gavin has edited his post stating that, or I could have missed it.

You missed it

Yes it does... Using my details, it says: "...your line should be able to support a 5.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection..."

Download speed is about 120k/s download rate per 1mbps . So its saying I should be able to get a download speed of 660+ k/s

If you don't have a BT line (i.e. you hav NTL), you can't get ADSL. (Unless you mean you don't have a BT line yet)

I dont have a BT line at the moment, i'm with NTL but considering moving to ADSL and therefore getting a BT line.

So i was just wanting to see if there's anyway i could check how far i am to the local exchange and the roughly what speed i'd be getting.

all my neighbours are on NTL aswell

Is there no other way i can check what speed i would receive without having a BT line first.

I've checked my distance to the local exchange which is 740metres, if that helps at all.

How about a shop close to you. Get the number and try that.

Surely someone close to you has a BT Line?

Re: Distance to local exchange

My distance through Samknows is 0.9km apparently...

I'm using bebroadband 24mbps service and attaining this speed

What's the problem? I'm going insane, this isn't even TWICE as fast as my old BT 2mbps service... Help me out...
