Buying a new router for AOL for NTL/Virgin

I'm buying a new router to replace to DI-604 router I have now, because everything I have tried to get it wokring completely again has not worked. I hav a found a BELKIN F5D5231UK4 for £33 at PC World, however I don't want to get one that doesnt work with our connection, because I don't know if i can return it. If this sint the right router im looking for then can someone tell me what is, like ADSL, DSL, Cable etc. Oh and it must be wireless, already have the wires set up and they are a lot cheaper. Hope for a quick reply because i want to go out and buy one this afternoon.

Who exactly are you using it with ? I cant seem to understand if it is for use with AOL, or NTL/Virgin ?
If you want it to run both then you would need a standard Wireless cable router.
NTL/Virgin do not work with ADSL routers.
If you bought a cable router, you could however still be able to use your AOL connection by plugging the ADSL modem into the router.

For NTL/Virgin, you just plug the supplied modem into the router.

Your computers then connect to the router wirelessly.

Many people on the forum rate the Linksys WRT54G

Some AOL customers have their broadband connection via the ntl/virgin network so the customer would need to buy a cable compatible router |

When i worked for ntl doing AOL customer support, home networking over Cable wasn't support and was very difficult to setup. Something to do with AOL screennames and the fact that they use PPPoE connections.
It may well be worth checking with AOL first whether it is now possible to run a home network on an AOL cable connection.

Iirc, AOL home networks over NTL only work with AOL supplied routers - they preconfigure your screen name. They also supply free routers for new customers - might be able to blag one as an existing.

Well, I bought the router, a Sitecom xDSL/Cable Router, £30 from Maplin. The guy in the shop said it should work and if it doesnt he said I could take it back. Got it home, set it up, but I had to spend 2 hours searching the internet and switching wires and changing settings before I managed to get it working. So it was my DI-604 that was paying up, had it for a year and a half, do routers go that quickly?
