What Speed should I be getting

Currently I'm on the cheapest package for Broadband. My download speeds are on average 1.2 meg. I'm running this through the old Pace box.

Having read some of the threads here it looks like the slowest speed should be 2meg?

if this is the case, is this a limitation of my STB and would a modem fix. Also would this increase my upload speed and stop my STB freezing when I'm uploading photos and the like?

just want to check before I phone up CS and make myself look like a berk. Happy to look like a berk on the forum

It is because you have a pace box they can't handle above 1meg so phone away you wont look a burk

Re: What Speed should I be getting

Just called up Tech support. They told me to speak to CS. CS told me it would be £50 unless Tech support recommended it. Back through to Tech Support this time I got them to recommend and give me a reference number.
Back through to CS who put me through to sales.
Sales sorted me out with a cable modem, and upgraded my speed to 10meg for 3 months for no increase in cost which as long as I remember to scale down in 3 months won't cost me a penny.

Did try a cheeky can I have a Samsung box, but they wouldn't do that unless my Pace was dead which it isn't(Only on life support)

Overall quite pleased. Was slightly annoying that I got passed around a couple of times, but ended up getting what I wanted for free and also 10meg for 3 months which is super.

Now if only NTL could start putting all the Pace boxes onto a big bonfire and burning them whilst giving (or charging a small fee) new STB boxes to everyone, then my life would be almost complete.

Today I'm mostly thinking NTL are a nice bunch of chaps.

Re: What Speed should I be getting

The nice man from NTL just came and installed my modem.

10 meg rocks. Haven't had any speed issues at all. Racks straight up to 10meg.

Though I have only had for approx 20 mins, so I may be speaking too soon
