Yes, but it's more POTS than PANS.

Are you sure? I spoke with the girl at NTL sales, and she said its not. I asked her to check again - and got the same answer from her manager...

Ask her what it is then, if it is not PSTN?

PSTN is just a all-inclusive acronym for the telephone network - she may be confusing technology types (copper cable versus fibre) with PSTN.
http://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia_te...i=49921,00.asp
"Definition of: PSTN
(Public Switched Telephone Network) The worldwide voice telephone network. Once only an analog system, the heart of most telephone networks today is all digital. In the U.S., most of the remaining analog lines are the ones from your house or office to the telephone company's central office (CO). "

Ask her if it's POTS (Plain Old Telephony System) or PANS (Pretty Amazing New Stuff)?

Re: Are NTL phone lines PSTN?

technically the PSTN used to be used to refer to the "BT" network. What I guess you mean is are they "POTS" (Plain Old/Post Office Telephone System), which they are. The new technology that replaces this is VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol)

Don't expect support staff to know this sort of thing, although I'm sure some do The right people to ask this question to is a senior engineer
