Domain Hosting

On the 15th Ocotber, I purchased domain and hosting through a 3rd party company.

Due to various problems I have been advised "It is a network issue somewhere on the Internet which is unfortunately on the route between your Internet Service Provider and our Servers. I keep getting page cannot be displayed when trying to access the control panel, even though i can access other control panels just fine, I was told its not their problem. everything is working fine their end.

They have agreed to refund my hosting charge, but say there is nothing they can do with the domain names as nothing can happen with them for 60 days? Is this true, can they nor release them with qa certain time period. Do i not have 14 days?

I want to find another host, but do not want to have my domains with this company as I am concerned about reliability. The gy has been really helpful up until now, but I am starting to think this will changhe, they also haven't listed all my domains i brought in my profile.

Please can someone advise regarding regulations for the domain business.... Thanks

Re: Domain Hosting

I use 1&1 who are very reliable. If you change providers, you can transfer your domain names to them.

Re: Domain Hosting

It can be easier to have your domain names registered in one location, separate from your hosing. That way, if as you now find yourself, you need to move hosts, they can't hold you to ransom.

Most decent registrants will offer you controls over how and where to point your domains to servers. This can be made easier by website intermediaries like www.zonedit.com

Re: Domain Hosting

Can they actually say i can not transfer for 60 days, evem though they have just been registered? I thought you have 14 days to back out of any contract? I am not even sure who sets the rules for registering domains.

Does anyone else? I am happy to call and find out. If i had it and it worked no problem, i wouldn't want to change, but seeing as there obvioulsy is a problem, i think they are being unfair.

You should be able to get the domain deleted and your money back within 14 days - provided its a new register - but unfortunatly a lot of these domain companies will do all that they can to stop you getting your money back.
As for the transfer policy, it varies between companies, but it was probably specified in the small print at the time of purchase that you can't transfer for 60 days

Re: Domain Hosting

Thanks for that. I lll try that, I am jsut concerned about having access difficulties with using the same company in any way. They say its not there problem ,its something to do with the network between my isp and their servers, but as i explained its cleary not my fault as i can access cpanel from other sites perfectly well, using the same 2082 port.

Its so annoying, i so want it to work, but what else can i do if it doesn't?
Thanks for your help.

Yeah, that sounds like a cow dung answer.
best thing you can do in the mean time is get another hosting account, change your namesevers (if you can) and wait for them to get their act together

Re: Domain Hosting

Unfortunately the 60 day rule is imposed by the domain registry; it's nothing to do with the small print of your host, it's the same for all hosts. Until the 60 days has elapsed you should just be able to change the nameservers to point the domain to your new host.
