Re: where can i get a decent laptop, i have 500 kwid to spend.
TBH I find Dell laptops for general use, quite good value, especially the Inspeiron range (once you get rid of all the junk software they insist on loading). Just pay the extra fiver for the genuine windoze disks rather than the recovery stuff they insist on. We use them quite heavily at work, with no problems, unlike some of the other lappys we've had form other sources.
Biggest pricing thing for any lappy is usually the screen size, and weight. Unless the machine is well designed for the ventilation, make sure you get a mobile generation CPU rather than a desktop one. Otherwise you risk frying your legs when you do use it as a lappy!
The killer with Dell is often the post and packing, which can be extortionate.
Just above your price range try this form Dell http://configure.euro.dell.com/dells...rsinspn_6400_5 incl VAT and delivery that looks a good deal to me. Nice screen size too - It's the one I have for work and I love it. You can save money too by reducing the warranty deal.

don't shoot me, but PC World had a Toshiba at £399.99 a week or so ago and it was well spec'd and I really rate Toshiba machines.
I thought it was a good buy.

I second that, we use Dell laptops at work and they are great. They do go wrong occasionally, but the on site repair soon gets them back to normal.
They currently have on offer a 15.4" wide screen Inspiron with the top-of-the-range support package for £508 all inclusive ( http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=en&s=dhs).

Ebay might not be a first choice. But try the HP direct shop
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/HP-Renew-Sh...Q3amesstQQtZkm
or there's a dell direct shop. can't find the link am afraid.
I bought from the HP shop and so far, quite a few people said i got a good deal.
It's definitely worth a look.
Good luk.
