another overclocking thread -AMD hits back ?
For those die hard AMD fans on a tight budget the x2 3600 seems to be a nice choice default clock 2 gig but can overclock to x2 5000 speeds of 2.6 gig http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...x2-3600_3.html
Im currently playing with one of these on an Asrock 40 quid mobo so its another cheap dream

Woah, that's pretty sweet. Wonder what I can get my 4200 to do then? It's only running at 40C at stock speeds so... hmmm

First thing you will need to do is drop the hypertransport to 800 from 1000 as this will give you headroom. An overclock on an x2 or any x64 amd cpu will fall over here first

Re: another overclocking thread -AMD hits back ?
Hmm, my 3700+ is running at 51 at stock speed even with the Zalman AlCu jobbo. The zalman needs to come off anyway to be reseated - I need to change the baseplate on the mb for the one that came with the HSF and renew the paste.
Any more ideas?

artic silver and a reseat should do the job, remove the cpu and reseat that also
The 3700 at 51 doesnt really look like a problem to me whats its load temp? as long as its under 60 you will be ok

53. So not much difference, the reseat+repaste is planned because the mainboard needs to come out.
Now any ideas to get the stock metal baseplate off an Asus K8V SE Deluxe will be appreciated. It's stuck on the back quite firmly and understandably I don't want to force it. A quick google reveals applying hairdryer to back of MB gets it off by loosening the glue. Any other suggestions?

Thats very good to know, thanks! I've been looking at AMD64 (pref dual core) for some time now, as my Athlon XP 2000+ is starting to get a bit long in the tooth (although its still not too bad as I'm not really much of a gamer).

Re: another overclocking thread -AMD hits back ?
My 3600 is currently bench testing at 2.4 gig .I only bought a cheap mobo as this machine is just a tool for dvd burning and the like however I wish I bought a different board as this board will not allow me to raise the vcore above 1.25 in fact set to 1.25 its only showing a nominal 1.2 so I dont hold out much hope.
