who has the cheapest GPRS?

I have had my phone on T-mobile PAYG. while on the T-mobile £10 credit only lasted me 3 days just for testing the internet with GPRS. called up and they said the charge is correct. but i have only been browsing around 20 pages... havnt even got the grip

here i would really really like to get the MSN messanger on the phone so i can be online 24/7 but really worried about the cost. so is there a network going to be really cheap on GPRS? in the UK that is have to be!

Thanks

fe.

Re: who has the cheapest GPRS?

A lot of contracts give a certain amount of data transfer for free...

is contract an option you would consider or do you want to stick PAYG?

Re: who has the cheapest GPRS?

Thanks Chris... (even it was you that locked my last thread :P)

but anyway, i have a 3G contract already, but u know the D**M walled garden, i can't use anything at all... the contract is not finishing till Nov.

i d prefer a PAYG but a contract can be a option. i don't know how much i am going to use as the MSN is going to be for type chat only and no file(preferably) but going to be on for at least 12 hours a day. as long as a contract is cheap enough! :P

Re: who has the cheapest GPRS?

I have an o2 contract with unlimited GPRS but it looks like they have discontinued that now

All of their tarriffs seem to include 1mb usage per month though, which they reckon equates to around 1000 wap pages...

Different Chris ...

Your last thread got locked because the muppets at O2 did such an amateur job of setting up the URL for their promotion it made it look like a phishing scam. We made this very clear to them when they got in touch. Sorry you got stuck in the middle of it...

oh well, i have not complaint or anything, but i have to admit that o2 has got a MUPPET... so he/she is to blame.

I use msn on the O2 contract, AFAIK you can leave msn 'open' with no extra cost than that of opening the prog ( waits to be corrected ) then it only costs you per mb of data sent / recieved, which I would assume to be low, I say assume and AFAIK because I've never looked into it, sorry I can't help more than that

but i am not sure what messanger do you use? and you just use the normal GPRS setting without the change of anything else?

I have an XDA II and MSN messanger came pre-installed, and nope, no settings to change, at least not on the XDA, in case you don't know, it's classed as a hand held or pocket p.c. so its just as simple as selecting the icon from the start menu and logging in.

The program still has to send packets every few seconds to allow it to acknowledge your still online, but this is a very small amount, so over a long period i'd imagine it would build up slowly

Re: who has the cheapest GPRS?

I have used internet and msn quite a lot on o2 and have never gone over my quota (which is listed as 100k). I think they do do a PAYG deal where you can pick 300 free text or a amount of gprs free each month so long as you bang £10 on it.

ahh here we go linky its £2.35 per mb which they say is 150 to 200 pages.

Plus you get all this free to use in the first 30 days :

5MB GRPS WAP
1 O2 Photocard
1 O2 Ringtone up to £2.50
1 O2 Game up to £2.50
5 Picture Messages
2 O2 videos up to £2.50 each ****

how do you like them apples?

Re: who has the cheapest GPRS?

i pay for 4mb of gprs per month, this is mainly for bobbing on the email and msn occasionally when im on the move...

however, last month i used 32mb of gprs, and paid £25 for it, this is on orange. That was basically viewing my gmail page, and my "my ebay" page, every day...

expensive

i believe with orange 3G you get 1000mb per month, but i don't know whether that is limited in any way.

Re: who has the cheapest GPRS?

i have a nokia 7710 which uses HTML browser, it will even download/open flash movies, that's why i have killed my £10 credit in no time!

so i will not use the phone for browsing again. only MSN... i will go and get myself smoe O2 cards from somewhere!

Thanks for the info mate, I'll have to leave it on one month and see how much it costs, either that or install a bandwidth monitor on it and monitor it daily, that would be better, I think

What sort of handset do you need to go on my ebay and msn on orange? I only seem to be able to check my hotmail mail account on mine.
