Installed win xp over home, now 2 partitions ??
Hi all, quick story, a friend of a friend has a lappy, it had so much crap on it that we decided to go for an upgrade from xp home to pro, everything went ok, or so it seemed, now we have 2 partitions ( C ) and ( E ) C, shows up as System and E shows up as Boot ( under computer managment )
Ok, what I would like to do is format the HD to reclaim all disk space under 1 lable, then do a fresh install of XP pro, I can't see an option anywhere and I can't delete either 1 of the partitions.
Q & A's on a postcard please to .............. confused / desperate ... and gratefull

Boot from the CD it should give you the options to format the drive and do a clean installation.

you'll need to repartition the drive, delete the 2 partitions then make 1 partition.
you should be able to do it if you boot using the XP disc.

Make him try again for the hell of it lol.
If you can boot from the CD Bop you should at some point in the install get the option to choose a partition, you should be able to remove any extra partitions here.
Best thing to do is read the instructions in the link I gave as it has screenshots so you can recognise where you are in the install.
Bop try booting form the CD again and look for this screen

i dont think the xp disc and resize partitions so if you just delete the extra one you will lose a chunk of HD space.

From Post 1 Bop says he wants to reformat the drive completely and start again. Booting from the CD should allow that to happen.

Yeah but you were tired so the odds are you may have chosen a wrong option somewhere that stopped it doing what you want to achieve. At least it's looking like it might work this time though.
