email problems

For some reason I cannot download my email at the moment. It just hangs with the message downloading 1 of 19, it never downloads though. My wifes email downloads OK and I have tried downloading my email on to her laptop but still no good. Anybody got any ideas please?

I am on NTL broadband.

Re: email problems

Message 1 doesn't contain a big attachment does it? Can you access your mailbox at http://webmail.ntlworld.com ?

Re: email problems

Thanks for the quick reply Andy. I went to the website you said and deleted all my email but one, then went back to my usual email program and the one message I hadn't deleted downloaded OK, so hopefully thats it fixed.

None of the emails had a big attatchment though so I am still none the wiser why they wouldn't download.

Thanks again.
Alan.

Re: email problems

The mail doesn't have to be large to cause a blockage if you have either antivirus or spam filtering software. Norton in particular seems to take a disliking to some emails for no readily apparently reason and rather than saying anything, it just disconnects from the server and sits there doing nothing till the mail client gives up and times out.

Re: email problems

I was thinking more that the attachment was downloading - I've often sat there knowing that I have, say 10 emails to download, not noticing that one in the middle has a huge attachment - then wondering why I've only got 5 messages in the inbox.
