Re: What Modem?

Any modem that you will be supplied with will be more that capable of delivering what the service offers. That being one of the ntl:home modems.

Re: What Modem?

maybe an NTL 250 (I am guessing)

Whatever you do put one of the stickers with the numbers on in a visible place on your modem (very handy if you have a problem).

Re: What Modem?

It'll be either an NTL 200 (silver and black, which I have) or an NTL 250 (blue and black, slightly newer model). Either way, both will do an excellent job.

More importantly than the cable modem itself, I suggest you use these instructions to setup: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/article.php?a=13

The NTL broadband installer CD is the most useless piece of crap I've ever encountered.

The installer CD's not useless!!! It makes a great fris-bee!!!!
And i prefer to use the online registration pages;
autoreg.autoregister.net (no www)
Serial number; ntl-ct8-cj486 in the 3 boxes. You'll have to set up O.E manually tho.

Re: What Modem?

Back in "my days", late 2002, my house mates and I all signed up onto NTL - 7 of us! Because I was the last person to sign up, I was given an NTL:120 modem, where the others were given NTL:100 modems. I still have my 120 modem on the 2Mbit connection. What's the significance with these figures?

Re: What Modem?

Software revisions im guessing... the new Ambit 250's seem pretty stable from what i have seen so far. Ambit 100 / 120/ 200 series are all the little silver / black box's that ntl used to use. I have had a 120 and a 200, no difference to the user as far as i can see.

Thanks KevAmiga.

Yes, the 120 I have is the silver one. What colour are they now (the 250s)?

Re: What Modem?

Cool The 250's are pretty funky looking, (should) come with a stand for vertical use and some velcro to stick it down with. A bit smaller than the older Ambit series... and way smaller than the 3com CMX
