monitor goes blank. not power or connection problem
i have a 19" monitor ( nec fe950). i bought it off ebay. it was supposedly in new condition. a few years old but hardly ever used. the guy i bought it from said he got it to use a graphics design course but he didnt take the course and so didnt use the monitor.
the following problem has occured abt two months after buying it.
the screen goes black. the power is still going to the monitor because i can see the light on the monitor. also it appears the signal is getting through from the cpu to the monitor because the light is green. when there is no signal coming through the light is orange. when i press the menu button on the monitor nothing appears. its not a connecting fault with the cpu or a power fault it would seem. any ideas what could cause this. it happens quite frequently now. im prob gonna have to buy a new monitor i know but id like to know what is causing the fault all the same. it seems strange that something can be working fine for an hour or two and then break. i fix the problem by fiddling the power cable in the socket of the monitor. i move it back and forward and eventually it comes back on.
any ideas what could be causing this problem. anyone ever experienced this problem b4?

Re: monitor goes blank. not power or connection problem
loose connection somewhere, in the monitor itself or the wire, at a guess.
Although it may be yer pc, try it on another or use it as an excuse to replace yer gfx card

Re: monitor goes blank. not power or connection problem
Have you made sure the cable is plugged in well at both ends on the monitor and the PC.
Try another cable and see if it solves the problem.

Re: monitor goes blank. not power or connection problem
Sounds like the monitor is going - possibly the tube, though normally you get a line. I'd try another monitor on the PC just to be certain that it's not the graphics card.

Re: monitor goes blank. not power or connection problem
I have an old Fujitsu monitor which has energy saving device fitted, this is supposed to turn monitor off after some time when idle and resume on mouse or keyboard activity. Sometimes it needs several mouse or keyboard pushes to waken it.
Just like me really !

Re: monitor goes blank. not power or connection problem
I have a 19" CRT (CTX) for example, and it starts off OK then as time passes (say 30 mins) it slowly expands (as if zooming on on the display) and then the orange light goes on. The other is a 15" TFT (Compaq) which has the Orange light but nothing will make it come on.
If you have tested them on a few machines (as I have with mine) and the problem is the same, then its time to buy a new one I feel. Going from a 19" CRT to a 19" TFT is mind blowing as the space saved is worth the outlay itself.
