NTL / DVD Recorder

Please help.
I have just bought a DVD rewriter. I've got it plugged into my NTL box through a skart lead. The picture is fine for DVD playback. It is also fine for terestrial telly. But the picture is fuzzy for all NTL channels, even though they are fine on the TV (i.e. not via the DVD). Any suggestions greatfully received. Thanks

Re: NTL / DVD Recorder

Right you need to go:
NTL >>> DVD recorder >>>>TV
On some DVD recorders they have to be on to get a good signal through the unit as they do not have a passive scart link but a powered one.
Alternatively it could be a dodgy scart lead.
Without seeing it its difficult to suggest to help.
Cheers

Hopefully your TV has two scart sockets? If not you might want to consider a scart multiadaptor.

The best way to wire (using scart leads) is:
STB #1 out > TV in #1
STB #2 out > DVD in #1
DVD out #2 > TV in #2

when recording make sure your DVD is recording from the DVD in #1 scart socket, not the TV connected one.

If you don't have two TV Scarts then using a multiadaptor:
STB #1 > multiadaptor in #1
STB #2 > DVD in #1
DVD out #2 > Multiadaptor in #2
Multiadaptor out #3 > TV in #1

Unhappy Re: NTL / DVD Recorder

Thanks for this guys.

Still no luck though. Am going to try the DVD manufacturer's helpline.

Cheers.

Re: NTL / DVD Recorder

This sounds like the input to your DVD Rec or output from NTL box is not set to SCART but S-Video - I don't own either of these devices but I know on my SKY/Video combination I can set the output to be S-VIDEO or something else?! (Sorry) If I have it set to S-Video I get a very fuzzy picture...

Hopefully someone with a NTL box will read this and translate it to the correct button/menu selections to help you check this?!
