Question Help with transfering DVD to PC

I've just got a DVD recorder and have been transfering old video tapes to it so I can load it into the PC for editing etc.

The files are VOB ones and I'm finding that no matter how short or long a recording I do, each time on the DVD I get a VOB file broken down into NINE parts. This is baffling me as it seems to record whatever I do, divides it by nine and thus I get nine chunks. These obviously cut off and restart so I don't get an even flow. (hope I'm making sense here).

Firstly, is this right that it records this way? And is there anything I can do to stop it and make the file just the one?

I'm assuming you are talking about a standalone dvd recorder, if so I have no experience of them but I can help with the vob files.Download vob merge from the link below, it allows you to join multiple vobs into one file.

Also, a bit more detail would probably be more helpful. What machine and what settings are you using etc.

Yeah, it's a stand alone Phillips DVD recorder. The settings seem to be the issue. I just follow the instructions on how to record and as far as I can see, it's "press record", end of

Thanks for the above link, but it took me to some strange place! I found the programme with a search though
