Additional NTL Box
I have an additional NTL STB and want to install it.
How? I know I have to run a cable to the 2nd box and the connection that side I could handle (is there a limit on the length of cable as it would be approx 13 metres).
How do I split the connection coming from outside to the back of the 1st STB?

Re: Additional NTL Box
you have an additional box? as in bought from ebay or similar? if so tut tut.
STBs are property of ntl and obtaining one from anywhere else is illegal. If you want another one, call ntl- it is £15 a month and they will install it for you.

Re: Additional NTL Box
Not sure how you've got yourself an additional box, if it is a genuine box ordered from ntl then the engineer sent out should have installed it all for you
however, methinks this might now be the case???

Oh you people are so untrusting
Middle of last year we got the samsung box.
Then we moved and they disconnected us without visiting the house. Which meant I took the box with me.
When we moved they brought us a new box. Hence I now have a spare STB

ahh... makes sense. You realise that under the t & c's it is your responsibility to give the old box back....
Quote:
19.5 On termination of this Agreement you shall return all the Equipment to ntl. You may return the Equipment to us either:
(a) by sending or taking the equipment at your cost to the ntl address for Equipment returns (please see www.home.ntl.com/page/equipmentreturns for full details of how to return the Equipment and for the address for returns) within 14 days of the date of termination; or
(b) you may arrange for ntl to collect the Equipment from your premises.
If you do not return the Equipment or allow ntl to collect it we shall be entitled to bill you and you shall be liable to pay for the cost of replacing the Equipment and, unless the termination is due to our breach, you shall continue to be responsible for the payment of Charges until all the Equipment has been returned or its replacement value paid. In addition to all other rights, we reserve the right to bring proceedings against you for the return of our Equipment.

Re: Additional NTL Box
19.5 doesn't apply I haven't terminated the agreement with them.
I still have TV, phone and BB with them, so acording to that condition I don't have to return it

now i could debate whether the contract at the old address for that box was terminated or not but i can't be bothered.
It doesn't really matter anyway - the stb won't work because it will have been disconnected from your account.

Re: Additional NTL Box
Ah! Hadn't actually tried that.
To be honest I would only be after the basic channels, ie 1-5.
Is it possible to take some sort of feed to another TV? If so, how?

during a new customer installation, no, you get it all free - as an add on, I am not sure - my original install was 2x analogue tv & phone with broadband, I have changed my dialup account from subscription to payg, recently

Re: Additional NTL Box
monkeybreath - I think dragon was asking for the actual callout fee for the Engineer to attend site and install the 2nd box rather than the monthly fee. Does that mean that on the condition that the customer signs up for a year or something, they get free installation on the 2nd box? Or is it something like £25 for the callout?

The callout is free - as is the installation. I think I read somewhere you had to have it for 30 days. But I had one box put in which became unwanted after about 4 months and they took that back without anything being said
