NTL claim I owe money

I was on NTL's £15 per month phone/dialup package, before I moved to ADSL last year. However, it was troublesome cancelling, having both phoned a few times, as well as sending a letter by recorded delivery, yet they still claimed a month later that they had no record of my cancellation request, and the service was still active. After a few more calls, a customer representative appeared to give in, and cancelled the service there and then - and said that was the end of it, nothing to pay, etc.

However, today I recieved a phone call from NTL, saying I owe them £15 from an unpaid direct debit - which I'm guessing would be from around the time that we should have been disconnected, but weren't.

Any advice would be much appreciated

one thing i would say though is that as the account bills in arrears at the time the csr relented and disx your account the balance would have stood at nil but the final bill would still have accrued at the end of your billing period,i realise of course your account should have been disx earlier so probably this bill wasnt due!

Hi Ronny - Good luck regarding your NTL account. They have continued to bill me for eight months after I cancelled the contract with them due to their persistent bad service. Hope your problem is sorted out. I intend going to court with them and in the meantime getting out info about their bullying tactics to everyone.
All the best

Re: NTL claim I owe money

Hi Chris
I hope you have better luck than I have had - like you I've written numerous letters to Ntl over the past eight months regarding the agreement I cancelled as a result of their breach of contract and have received a letter of demand now for the billing of my account these past months up to and including this month. I've reported them to Trading Standards who are investigating the matter - please do the same because the more people who do so the better it will help us all their website is https://www.consumercomplaints.org.uk/

Re: NTL claim I owe money

Although Trading standards have been notified and have recorded my complaint they informed me that I would have to sort the matter out. So Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢m now ready to write my sixth letter (Company Secretary this time as advised by trading standards), as Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢ve still not received any response from the other 5.

Make sure you send it recorded delivery (or whatever method it is that gives you proof of delivery)!

I sent letters to the MD of Ntl Group Ltd, to Credit Management, Customer Services and to the Collections Manager and received a reply from Customer Concern. I suggest you write to Customer Concern at Customer Liaison Team, ntl:, Concode Business Park, Threapwood Road, Wythenshawe, Manchester M22 0EY (marked for the attention of Ken Dugdale) and hopefully you will come to a satisfactory arrangement through them. My problem was more or less sorted out although I still have to pay for the line rental to get shot of the problem. They did meet me halfway in writing off quite a bit, so I agreed to pay for the line rental much against my will. One thing, for sure, is that company will never be recommended by me. I went back to BT and haven't had one problem in the seven months since. I was an idiot to have changed in the first place just to save a few pounds for hassle, frustration and expense incurred with ntl. Good luck Chris.

I've had dealings with Ken Dugdale in the past, & he was very good. He knows how to sort problems out (including refunds/compensation), & how to speak to (very) irate customers.

Re: NTL claim I owe money

Thanks for your help guys. Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢ve just come of the phone (BT line) after speaking to disconnections again (Received letter threatening court action if I didnââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t pay the outstanding £150 plus) they stated that I only owe £44.36 which is about right so if they send me a invoice for that amount I will pay up.

(Could take it further but not worth the agro)

So Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢ll keep you posted.

Btw: I find if you use a BT line to contact NTL the wait time is down to about 5 mins (Wonder if itâ₠¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s because they have to pay BT for using there line)
