iPod Battery Question

Hope Entertainment is the right place

Anyway, bought 20g 4th Gen iPod on Ebay from USA. All works fine except this...

I charged via PC (FWire) until fully charged. Then if I use iPod battery is showing full. However, if I leave for a few days and use I get no immediate response from pressing the buttons, I get an Apple logo, then it springs to life. However, the battery is showing about half used (even though its been off for a couple of days).

I am in the process of running down and re-charging using proper power adapter, but anyone found this ? And why does it take a while to start (with that apple logo thing) ?

Apart from that it actually works fine (transferring, playing, updating, iTrip etc). I also have the latest update on it 2-22 I think.

Thanks.
SBH.

Re: iPod Battery Question

the reason that the battery goes down is that the ipod is always "on" and only really goes into a sleep or standby mode, that's my understanding of it.

if i may suggest, check out the ipod lounge website, it's full of these sorts of questions and more

Re: iPod Battery Question

You're right Watchman. After a while (not sure how long it is) the iPod will go into 'deep sleep'. Or as the rest of us would call it 'off'.

Pressing the button will wake it up and it goes through the boot sequence.

This is done to prolong the battery life.

Re: iPod Battery Question

Yes, the Ipod goes into sleep standby mode when it is not in use. This uses a small amount of battery so it should be recharged atleast once a week.

You are better to use the charger on the mains than charging through firewire as it will be much quicker.

Sometimes you may notice that after a recharge the battery does not seem full.
A way to put this right is to reboot the pod. I cant remember how to do it on the 4th Gen Pods but on my 3rd Gen one you press the two middle buttons for more than 3 seconds.

Re: iPod Battery Question

I always find that after my ipod goes into 'deep sleep' upon restarting the batt has always lost a lot of charge.

Re: iPod Battery Question

On the 3rd Gen iPods, there is a problem that after a reboot, the battery level meter is not accurate for a long time. When I recharged my iPod once, I unplugged it from the mains and starting using it. It showed an empty battery. 40 minutes later, I was still using the iPod and it was showing a full battery.

Re: iPod Battery Question

Yeah a reset using the two buttons pressed down, normally solves the battery icon status issue.
