Connecting Xbox scart to STB

I should know better, but need some advice.

Connected xbox scart output into the NTL STB scart (VCR) input.
Connected STB (TV) scart output into plasma scart input.

Cannot acquire an image from the xbox, tried putting the stb into standby, no joy. Image from STB is fine.

Am I missing something?

Have a digital PACE (Di4001NC).

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

isnt the VCR socket on the STB an output and not an input?

Normally you would connect that socket to your VCR to allow you to record and the other output to your TV to allow you to view

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

If the VCR socket on the stb is just an output, then how would you play back content from the VCR (another scart conx to the TV?)...sounds suspect.

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

good point, it is both input and output. Is the Xbox just not switching it to an AV channel or have you tried doing it manually?

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

If the stb is on and displaying an image, I then turn the xbox on, but continue to get the stb image.
How would I do "it manually"?

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

I think it's a switching thing.

If you're using an RCA to Scart adaptor, then you won't get any sort of signalling on pin 8 of the Scart plug. So the STB won't know that there's a signal to be passed through, meaning that it'll just show the TV pics unless it's switched to standby.

The best thing I can suggest is for you to get a fully-wired RGB Scart lead for your XBox. The official Microsoft ones are hideously expensive, but cheaper unofficial ones work just as well. Not only will the switching work, but it will give you a great boost in picture quality too, expecially on a plasma screen.

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

check the options on the STB if the RGB is on and Scart control is set to yes then try changing them both.

when you put the STB on standby does the screen go black or change to Blue?

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

The xbox cable is RCA with scart adapter. the pin-8 thing makes sense, however i would expect the xbox to still display (via stb VCR scart) when I put the stb into standby. All i get is a black screen with the plasma displaying 'no signal'

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

I would imagine that if the STB is in standby, it is not going to be powering any of the SCART sockets. If the STB is on, then it's going to be transmitting a signal, which would override anything being sent via the XBOX lead.

The only reliable way of achieving what you want is to connect the STB Scart to one socket on the plasma, and a second scart direct from your Xbox to a second scart socket on the Plasma TV.

If you don't have enough sockets on the TV, then you have to go out an get an extender or switching Scart socket, that allows 2 or 4 scarts in to one out, the out being plugged to your TV, the ins to your STB, Xbox, etc. Some extenders require you to manually choose whcih cable's signal is used, some are sophisticated enough to have auto sensing swithces, but not always reliable.

The scart extender is the only way I can do it, with my Samsung STB, Xbox, DVD recorder and only 2 sockets on the TV.

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

Thank you all for you input...

I thnk i'll be going for the fully wired scart lead replacement for the Xbox, this sounds like it will not only solve my problem but also provide extra gain on xbox pic quality.

Thanks again.

Re: Connecting Xbox scart to STB

You could also get a SCART switch box, so the XBox isn't being routed through the STB.
