Radio via Cable

I have a Music cable from my box to Tuner. I want to upgrade the tuner but what type do I buy. An ordinary one or one with DAB?.
I only wish to listen to the radio without having the TV on.

Re: Radio via Cable

to cable forum

by music cable, is this a separate feed independent from your Set Top Box (STB)?

I have standard phono leads connecting my STB to my Hi-Fi amplifier (not the tuner). Setting the digitial STB channel to the ntl radio station, I can then listen to radio when the amplifier is set to the phono lead connection. The TV doesn't have to be on for this. Changing radio channels is doen on the STB, not the hi-fi, thus decoding is STB, not Hi-Fi, and no DAB radio is needed.

Re: Radio via Cable

Thank you for reply, Connecting STB to Amplifier sounds fine, I will try that.

The cable is directly from the Cable box not the STB. I paid a one off fee when I joined NTL, it would obviously be more convenient for me to use this but I dont know what I need at the tuner end.
Many thanks. Frank

Re: Radio via Cable

Ah that is an analogue UHF feed. The only channels on this are standard FM radio stations so no point in getting a DAB radio to use with this exclusively.

Re: Radio via Cable

Depends on the model of the STB whether or not there are phono jacks or not. The realy modern PACE digital and Samsungs do not have phono connections (some money saving idea I suspect). If there are none, you can get a scart lead with phono breakouts from most good electrical retailers.

Re: Radio via Cable

If your just going to carry on useing the FMs as before then when you get the new tuner life will be made a little easier for you if it has a 75ohm input on it (looks abit like the aerial socket on the back of your TV) as you'll be able to plug the cable in directly rather than have to mess about with wierd and wonderful connectors.

Re: Radio via Cable

Thank you Stu038, I can't get DAB signal in my area so I think the new tuner is the best bet.
Regards
