Connection Dropping

Wonder if any of you could help me, I am using a ENET cabel and my Connection keeps dropping after say 5 mins of my PC being etc or even if it has been on all day. I will click on my IE icon and it will say Decting Proxy Settings and this can hang on to say 2mins and then finaly go to my homepage, i have called NTL and they keep saying oh your CM needs a reboot or it's your firewall, even though i have done this i still keep getting drop outs on the system. I was wondering if any of you knew what it could be?, i was thinking it maybe the cable modem?

Thanks

Re: Connection Dropping

Hi DJ Dave,

Pan this out a bit more for us.

What cable modem are you using and what are the status of the lights on it when the connection drops.

Also are you using a proxy or have you tried using one.

Plenty of guides on here if you are about changing them.

Re: Connection Dropping

I have the 120 Modem which was swapped over a year ago due to the old one not connecting very fast. I have tried a proxey sever address and got no luck and when i called NTL again the other day they said it was my RAM which is 208MB but i have had no problem with this RAM before. As for the lights on the modem i have not really looked but will let you know next time i have this fault.

Re: Connection Dropping

My modem has been doing this for a few weeks. Just randomly disconnecting even when my PC is not on. I think it may have something to do with the upgrades that are taking place on the network.

Re: Connection Dropping

Well he has just been here, and swaped the 120 for a 200 would hav liked a 250 but if it does the job i don't care to much. He also tried to make out that there was no Call Centre in India anyway lets just hope i have no probs now.

P.S does anyone know if there is anything changed much in the 200?
