Cant connect Surround Sound to LCD TV

Sorry if this isnt the right place but saw no where it should go.

I have a Waltham TV3202HDV 32" LCD TV...When i searched for that model it brought back an Orion TV so i assume it was made by Orion and re-branded.

I also have the Panasonic SCHT545W DVD Home Cinema System.

The problem is that when i try connecting the audio cable from the tele to the dvd player/reciever i can't get any sound what soever. I tried changing the settings in the sound menu but nothing.

Now if i connect the audio cables to my Sky+ box and the dvd player/reciever i can get surround sound.

I would rather have it coming from my tele so that my Nintendo Wii can have the surround sound aswell....Yes the Wii does suppport Surround Sound.

Any ideas on what to do ? Tried phoning support but all i get is an answering machine no matter when i phone. Have left messages but not returned call yet.

The sound settings only allow me to change the sound system to BG, DK, I, L, LP (dont know what these stand for) Stero, Dual A, Dual B and different effects.

Any help will be greatly recieved.

Re: Cant connect Surround Sound to LCD TV

Is there a setting on the tv to turn off the speakers ?

I remember a few years ago, I had the same problem with a JVC, and had to turn off the tv's speakers before they would play sound through a home cinema system.

Re: Cant connect Surround Sound to LCD TV

Are the connections on the TV line in or line out? Line in won't work, as the TV is expecting a signal into it rather than out of it.

That may be the problem......Just looked at the book again and it says Audio Inputs......Any other way to get the surround working through the tele then ?

Would rather have it through the tele instead of the sky+ box because when the tele is off sound is still there...would have to turn off the surround system also.

Re: Cant connect Surround Sound to LCD TV

If you connect the Sky + Box you will get Dolby Digital on the channels where its available. From the TV you will only ever get Pro-Logic.

If you want to step backwards and only use Pro-logic then if you have a spare scart socket on the TV get a Scart breakout cable (phono's on one end), but make sure its an out and not an in.

What outputs are available on the Wii and what spare inputs are available on the amp/DVD?

Re: Cant connect Surround Sound to LCD TV

no outputs on the wii....just the standard connection....i have component video in, s-video available on the amp/dvd....Now i wish i had a different tele...LOL

I could get the wii in surround sound by the looks of if by connecting the component cable to the amp/dvd but then i would have to keep switching the tele sky+ and wii cables....

Looks like i'm SOL
