Adios Amigos
Well, I will admit that I was proven wrong.
When I moved back to the UK approximately 18 months ago and signed-up with NTL for the broadband, tv and phone package, all my friends and colleagues told me that this company was so inept and incompetent that I would be switching to a Sky/BT/ADSL package within 18 months. I laughed at them back then, and didn't believe any company could be quite so bad and yet still be operating.
However, I shall be shortly walking to my nearest public phone box to call NTL to cancel my subscription. I have to walk to a payphone, as NTL decided in their infinite wisdom to downgrade (ie cut off) my home phone. Their reason...? Apparently there have been mistakes on my bills so I have been underpaying them for the past 4 months. However, this error was never communicated to me, and as far as I was aware, I was billed an amount each month which I duly paid.
Nobody thought to tell me that what NTL tell you that you owe them is not necessarily the true amount that you really do owe them. It seems you have to be a mind-reader to be a customer of NTL (as well as having the patience of a saint).
This, in itself, is bad enough, but the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back is the fact that since having moved house 5 months ago, they've been charging me double - for services I used to have at my old address as well as services I receive at my new address (albeit the services charged for the new address are apparently incorrect!). So, if you add it up, NTL actually owe me money instead of the other way around! They've been unable to resolve this for 5 months and have still not reimbursed me.
I can no longer deal with their sheer incompetence that is NTL, so as of today, I shall be announcing to them (from the cold payphone down the road) the termination of my contract.
As such, I think my visits to Cable Forum will be a lot less frequent then they have been in the past. So long, and thanks for all the fish!
Merry Xmas to everyone ...except those idiots at NTL that I've been dealing with.

terrible, shame it had to come to this, can't say I blame you, though, even though I have never had any problems with my bill, if I had been treated as badly, I would also be considering my options.
Doesn't mean you shouldn't keep dropping in to CF, though, several members have adsl & sky & no ntl, so I hope you re-consider that bit
All the best if you decide otherwise, though

Re: Adios Amigos
Hey i have Zen Broadband and no cable/sat/freeview telly - yet i still lurk around and wise up everyone for a laugh.
Saying that - the reason i do that is probably because i dont have Cable/sat/Freeview...
Either way - as Arnie once said..

Re: Adios Amigos
I know how you feel, a friend of mine told me I would be back to BT within 18 months. It is now 13 months and I have had nothing but hassle from day 1.
Apart from having an internet connection of anything from 28 to 750bps, which has now been resolved I now find I have no telephone service and judging by the amount of people that normally phone me, I haven't had it for approx. 24 hours.
Why can a company be so inept as this......
I'm not happy

Re: Adios Amigos
And Yet I've never had any problem with NTL.
All the services I have Phone, TV, Cable Broadband have all run smoothly with practically no outages or downtime, and all my bills have arrived on time, and fully itemised, with no decrepancies showing.
And the free speed upgrades to the broadband packages have been more than welcome.

Re: Adios Amigos
My NTL service has been practically faultless over the last 5 or so years. However the billing system is archaic and disjointed so it's not surprising you've had problems. I hope they are resolved to your satisfaction.

Re: Adios Amigos
(knocks on wood) I've never really had a major problem, a few downtimes over the last 3 years (I mean 2, maybe 3 a year) that are resolved within a reasonable time, but thats to be expected.
I hear a lot of people beat down NTL. Its not that I dont believe the, (why would I?) but I haven't had it terrible.
But now I've said it...
(knocks on wood again)

Re: Adios Amigos
Yep, well, it's kinda weird, but I still find myself visiting here, so I guess I'll be sticking around even though I'm not sticking with NTL.
Oh, and for anyone interested in my house moving plight... apparently the unpaid bills I'd had were all sent to my old address, although NTL couldn't explain why one out of three bills they send me monthly were being sent to that address. Ne'er mind, not a problem any more

Re: Adios Amigos
service quality seems to be a regional gamble, some areas are very good others are very poor, customer services have been going downhill for a while now, but I also think they regional dependant because I have no sunday tech support but other parts of uk do.
