Cable Modem Problems

Hello everyone,

Good to see the NTHell resources back up at last - I really do believe that NTL shouldn't get away with their disgraceful level of customer support and service.

I've tried a thousand times on the Indian line, but I don't seem to get any coherent sense out of them - I hope someone can help!

Basically what happens is the cable light on the modem (one of the old chunky black Terayon ones) goes out of its volition, and then comes back on again. This means that the internet will, all of a sudden just stop. And then I have to refresh the modem to get to link back up with IE and actually receive data.

This is happening regularly - at least every half an hour, sometimes more - and I'd appreciate knowing how to go about solving it. Believe me, the technical support line seem to have even less of a clue than me (and believe it or not, one of them didn't understand the word 'error'... Christ...).

Would appreciate some feedback on how to sort this problem out.

Cheers,

Rob

Re: Cable Modem Problems

Firstly, I don't think you can blame the people working in said Indian Call Centres basically because they are attempting to complete a job, however you can blame NTL for implementing it.

Secondly, I believe most people would require a little bit of extra information, such as the area you are in.

There is nothing you can do to fix this apart from ring NTL Technical Support and specifically say that the cable light on your cable modem is going out. The state of your PC is not relevant to this problem. The problem might be related to signal levels in the local cable network, or faults in the cable network.

I've had the same problem a few weeks ago and it's still happening, I've had an engineer out and he says there is nothing wrong with the modem, he changed the cable connection but it's still doing it. When I phoned up Tech suppport I got through to India and it took me well over 45 minutes to explain the problem only for them to put me through to Wales.
