EPG Statement on Accessibility

I have just stumbled across this page in the policy section of the ntl Home website. Its really useful and details you of what steps have been taken by ntl to improve the service for those with disabilities. It tells you what will be implemented and what has been implemented and that includes Audio Description that was recently launched on Sky. There is a comparison chart looking at the three versions of the EPG currently introduced. It also seems to hint to a third version of the EPG sometime next year which would include the suggested improvements.

There is a list of those channels with digital or traditional subtitles which I know is a FAQ.

Re: EPG Statement on Accessibility

Isn't it a bit sad though that -- as with the news about renumbering happening next year -- NTL only release info about their DTV plans when required by law to do so?

Interesting. I suppose eventually they will do something about the Pace boxes habit of crashing out from time to time, and of course constant streaming messages of No scheduled data available!

Re: EPG Statement on Accessibility

Making accessible would be a start. I mean to everyone not just those with special needs. We still buy a TV guide every week as it's so flaky.

Re: EPG Statement on Accessibility

is the epg being "flaky" and not displaying data not caused by a lack of RAM in the stbs and a software upgrade would nothing to cure this?

look at last march, the rollover from CR2 to CR3 was meant to cure this was it now? it actually made it slightly worse

anyone out there got a samsung stb who experiences this issue?

Shame they didn't think of that when they were writing that web page

Re: EPG Statement on Accessibility

I think it would be a little unfair to compare the Samusng STB's to the Pace ones on Langley because they use completely different return-path technologies. However, I would say that the 'no schedule data' message appears rarely, but the loading speed of the Guide is alot slower then the Pace's on Langley

Re: EPG Statement on Accessibility

In fairness what are Sky doing in this respect?

Audio Description - yes

But their EPG and Search and Scan bar in its currrent for is absoutely terrible for the disabled. You cant even turn subtitles on easily.

They also have an audio only channel guide. What's with the numerous threads against Sky all of a sudden melon?
