Know *exactly* what I want, how do I get it cheap?

I figured this was the best forum for this one, beacuse it covers all 3 services. If not, then I'm sorry.

I want the following from NTL
1) Phone line (on the lowest possible rental)
2) Dial up internet (my PC is too old for BB)
3) Family pack telly

No more and no less.
Now this is where I could use your help. How do I get a good deal. Do I get the best prices if I just ask for phone and internet, then let them sell me the telly, or should I come straight out and ask for what I want.

There are so many offers I'm confused

there WAS a deal available with ntl where if you go for the ntl family pack you had line rental free for a year, but i am not sure if that is still going, cannot find it anywhere, have the leaflet at home with a phone number on if you would like it to check

Anything over a Pentium 100 will happily run broadband, as long as it has a USB or Ethernet port. If it doesnt you can purchase a USB/Ethernet PCI card...

If you have a PC slower than a Pentium 100 - ouch!

Pentium 200, but windows 95

The speed just isn't a massive issue.

I'm happy with dial up.

As far as I am aware, NTL phone line rental is free with all TV packages?

Re: Know *exactly* what I want, how do I get it cheap?

The offer for free line with family pack is still valid.

Unlimited dial-up is £12.49, but with a P200 upgraded to W98 (and min 64k RAM) you can get 300K (soon to be 1Mb!!) Broadband @£17.99 with 3 months @ half price - I will let you do the sums

"and min 64k RAM" ....so a commadore 64 would be fine then
Sorry couldn't resist. Thanks for your help

Broadband would be (9*3)+ (18*9)= 189 quid for my first year
Dial up 12.5*12=150 quid for first year

Creaky ole dial up it is then.

BB is something I may get eventually. But I wouldn't get the best out of it with my current set up. I'd need to uprgade to 98 and re-install everything. I'd need to get proper loudspeakers to really enjoy the multimedia aspects, and maybe a bigger monitor. And I'd really need to get at least a newer 2nd hand base unit to *really* enjoy the benefits of it.

Re: Know *exactly* what I want, how do I get it cheap?

95 > 98 is fairly painless and does not need a format if you are careful (tho its ages since I did it) and most decent puter shops will have an upgrade disc for very few ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£ÃƒÆ ’‚£ these days.

My old 200MMX W98 still resides on the home LAN and runs BB fine.

I am sure I saw somewhere you CAN run on W95 if you use Ethernet - I may be wrong tho.
