WinXP scandisc

My grandsons computer has winxp pro installed and it keeps asking whether he wants to run scandisc every time he starts his computer. When he runs scandisc it doesn't find any errors, is there a way to stop this pesky behaviour.

Double click on My Computer
Right Click on C
Click on Properties
Click on the Tools Tab
Under Error Checking click Check Now
Make sure both check boxes are clear of ticks
Click Cancel

if the computer is being switched off at the mains, without going through the shutdown sequence, it will run scandisk on the next boot

Re: WinXP scandisc

Click "Start", "Run". Type "chkdsk c: /f" (without quotes) and press "Enter". Now, the computer should point out it cannot dismount the current drive. This is OK. It should offer to schedule a chkdsk on the next reboot. Press Y.

Reboot the machine, and allow chkdsk to run. This should clear the flag that is telling XP to check the disk.

Try a thorough scan in safe mode in case there is a problem or try this :

Re: WinXP scandisc

Format HDD with NTFS of convert to NTFS and doubt that you will ever get this again, recovers from power loss situations when FAT will not without scandisk.

Isn't that Win 95 / 98 / Me only? Not XP?

Re: WinXP scandisc

XP does not do that, unless there is a setting or something that I've missed that allows it.

I believe it does if you format using FAT

In that case:

convert c: /fs:ntfs

Sorted.
