Blocky Picture, sides missing and breaks in the viewing

Has anyone noticed that NTL Cable TV has a blocky picture, I know this cus I brough a TV from a friend that had SKY and when I went to have a look at the TV the picture was perfect and when I got it home I noticed that the picture was blocky and that the sides of the picture was missing, (well about an inch each side). Also now and again the picture will go black for about 1-3 seconds and when the picture comes back the voice is out of sync, If I change channel then it goes back to normal, but I was watching something on TV the other day, a quiz and I missed the question cus of this break in the picture, but I have phoned NTL and they told me that it does that at times, but I had NTL back in 2000 at my old address and it never happened once in 3 years, So what does that tell you. Thanks NTL.

the problem with a blocky picture and blacking out is something that happens with any digital television service when there is a transmission breakdown (bad signal) phone ntl and get them to come and look at it

I did that about the blocky picture back in 2002 and they said nothing can be done about it but why does SKY have a full screen and no blocky picture?

I think NTL can do something about it I feel they are holding something back.

As for the picture keep breaking up I think there is an issue at my end, but knowing NTL it doesn't suprise me anymore.

you need to get the blocky picture sorted out and the 1-3 second blackout sorted. it shoud only black out once during the early hours of the morning to update the box (around 01.10). as for the sides missing you may have have the box set to 4:3 on a widescreen tv

i suspect that you are right about the aspect problem , how posh is the tv , what sort of options does it have , the inlaws one can shrink and expand the screen , the kids were messing about with it and it took ages to sort it

Ring ntl again about the blocky picture. It can be fixed.

I agree that the side bars are probably coz your TV and/or STB have the wrong settings.

I quite often go down my local pub to watch football on their sky digital and have from time to time seen blocky pictures on sky, so it is not just ntl that have these probs, you even get these probs on freeview. As i said its a digital tv problem that occurs due to power signal strength

Re: Blocky Picture, sides missing and breaks in the viewing

The Blocky picture is not just on 1 TV, I have 4 TV's in my house and all 4 are the same. The Blackout I will have to call out NTL about AGAIN and as for the missing sides I have a brand new TV that I got just less than a month ago, it's 32" with 100mhz and I have it in wide at the min but if I change it to 4:3 then it shortens the sides so much it's like a little square, I suppose there are options on the Cable Box

Re: Blocky Picture, sides missing and breaks in the viewing

Is the STB connected to the TV by a scart lead, an RF lead or both?

Are all 4 TVs connected to the one STB?

Re: Blocky Picture, sides missing and breaks in the viewing

I don't have all 4 TV's connetced at one time, I have 2 TV's running and the one in the bedroom I wireless device that sends a signal to my TV in my bedroom from the living room, but thats not the problem.

I am using 1 TV at the moment and I am getting a blocky picture, it's worse when the football is on, cus when I am watching players from a distance they are so blocky you can't make nothing out, it's horrible and I am paying for it too, if I call NTL out AGAIN I will get the same responce, There is nothing that can be done about it.
