Question I'm faxing myself????

I have two phone lines with Ntl.
One I use as the main phone and the other which is Ex Dir is connected to the PC modem.
I have a dail up account with Zen, however the main use for this connection is for faxing my main spares suppliers. I have an ordering program that I can use to compile and then send stock orders direct to them via fax. I also send them frequent faxes via a separate fax program. This has worked perfectly well for over 4 years without any problems, in fact I sent 2 faxes to them yesterday without any problems.
I have just tried to send them a fax this morning and every time I click send it dials my other phone???
I have checked and rechecked the number I am entering is correct.
I did notice that a day or so ago Ntl engineers had two large manhole covers up at the end of the road and appeared to be pulling a thick black cable through, could they have disturbed something in the cabs?

does seem rather a coincidence that work near you occurred just before this strange problem. Don't know what to suggest other than contacting faults, sorry .

can you connect a phone to the one that you normally fax from and try dialling a few numbers to so if it makes your home phone ring?

Re: I'm faxing myself????

This is really strange, I actually rang the ex dir phone from the main phone and it rang correctly, then I used the ex dir/modem phone to dial the main phone and that worked as well. I then tried once again to send the fax and it went through OK. Checking the fax logs shows my main home phone number in the failed fax logs but I swear I entered the correct phone number, even I am not that senile that I would do it wrong 4 times.

Also a short while later my wife tried to phone out on the main phone, got the key tones of the numbers but then the line was dead. It is a dect phone and I pressed the send symbol and got no sound when I should have heard a dialing tone. I rang the phone from the ex dir phone and although I could hear a ringing tone the main phone was not ringing. Tried a short while later and it worked OK, also the person my wife rang said that her phone rang the first time when we heard nothing.
It seems OK at the moment, will have to keep an eye on it.
