moving - email access
My apologies if this sort of topic has been answered before - I've had a quick search, but couldn't find anything.
I've got to move from my current address where I'm on stand alone cable broadband to an area that doesn't have ntl services.
Basically, I've gotta go back to BT
Is there a way of keeping my email addresses? In days gone by, could set up a PAYG ntlworld account and use those settings for email - but that would require creating new emails. I want to (try) and keep my email address (and sub account emails) if possible.
Sure... I could get ntl account over my bt line (ntlfreedom??), but unfortunately I've got to take up an offer from tiscali broadband to be my provider (basically, I'm getting access to a free account), so don't want to be paying for something that I won't use.
Hope that lot makes sense, if not let me know!

Re: moving - email access
I believe you should be able to switch your existing e-mail accounts to an ntl PAYG account.

Re: moving - email access
If you can change your account to a PAYG account then you can still get at your email via ntlworld webmail from your new Tiscali account. You should even be able to set up your Outlook Express (or other mail client) to receive your ntl email, via your Tiscali account, but would have to use the Tiscali servber for any reply you send via Outloook Express.
However you may need to dial into the ntl account once every few months to keep it active

Tiscali? TISCALI??????????
I take it you were desperate..........?
But yes, get your email ported to a PAYG account and you can use it from webmail. At present, nothing happens to accounts that don't get dialled into, however this is likely to change very soon, so it's recommended to dial in every month minimum. Trouble is, you won't be able to do that from a non-ntl line!
Using Freedom is the only 100% guaranteed method.

LOL Mark. Yeah, I was/am desperate... the move is leaving me damned short of dosh, and being as I help them out <weg> every now and again, they will provide free broadband access for me.
Not ideal I know, but needs must... tis either tiscali or no interweb access at all
BTW don't hold the fact that I help tiscali against me, will ya?!

I once moderated on Tiscali's forums.....we fell out in a big way, and that's what spawned my own forums (see sig), so perhaps I am biased.
However, I also consider their current products to be abysmal. They were much better in their previous guise of LineOne.

Re: moving - email access
Dear All,
Back in April, I cancelled my NTL Dialup account as I was desperate to get BB (I had to go back to BT and get BB through them). Alas I live in Central London (Chelsea) and NTL Customer Service "At the present time we can't give you information on when your area will have Cable Broadband" insisted that even if I cancelled my Dialup my e-mail will stay active and they will not disconnect it!! Famous last words eh!! On 29th Sept I couldn't access my e-mail. I got in touch with NTL Customer Service only to be confronted by a really rude female who wasn't prepared to listen to me. She insisted that I had arrears dating back to April and that until they were paid up I wouldn't have access to my e-mail account. I somehow persuaded her to put me through to her Supervisor. She said that someone would get back to me. 4 hours later a Techie from NTL called me and apologised and told me that the original Customer Service person had cancelled my account but not completely (whatever that means) and assured me that my e-mail account will be active by lunchtime the next day. He also informed me that I had to dial into NTL pay as you go every 120 days so that my account would not be terminated again!! This was on the 4th of October and I haven't heard back from him (though I have been leaving messages for him through NTL Customer Service).
I can't believe how a company can actually get away with this kind of conduct and behaviour. How can they cancel someone's e-mail account without even notifying them. At least they could have sent me an e-mail!!!
I really would appreciate some advice as to what I can do from this point onwards. I hope this is relevant to this thread!! If not I do really apologise.
Cheers
lokha
