Internet junkies in chilling cold turkey experiment
Quote:
If you've ever seen a smack-head handcuffed to a bed gibbering uncontrollably because he can't get a fix, then be afraid, because that's what you'll look like after two weeks of internet-free cold turkey.
That, at least, is according to an "Internet Deprivation Study" carried out by Yahoo! and advertising outfit OMD. Participants in the human experiment were deprived of the web for 14 days, and found themselves quickly succumbing to "withdrawal and feelings of loss, frustration and disconnectedness".

I really don't think I could go without the net for 2 weeks, unless I was travelling or something.

Re: Internet junkies in chilling cold turkey experiment
I can kinda relate to that.... sad innit? My friends think paying £38 p/month for broadband is crazy, but to me it's a necessity not a luxury.
I would have to be doing something unbelievably exciting to not miss surfing. Maybe being an astronaut or a pron star for a couple of weeks might do it

Re: Internet junkies in chilling cold turkey experiment
I remember a couple of years ago when a car smashed into a green box down my street and killed the internet.
I was soo annoyed for the whole night !!!
I have however spent 2 months without the net on holiday and that was OK, however I did find an internet kiosk at the library and just HAD TO connect after the first 2 weeks, to check my mail.

Re: Internet junkies in chilling cold turkey experiment
Its not hard to go for long periods of time without the internet IMO.
I have noticed that after long periods of not going online, when I get home one of the first things I do is sign into MSN (Thats before going the toilet or anything )

Re: Internet junkies in chilling cold turkey experiment
I would find it no problem at all going without the Internet for a length of time.
I have days at home when I don't switch my PC on at all.
Went to Spain for 2 weeks in July, they had 4 Internet Terminals in the hotel, I didn't once think about using them.
My mate on the other hand, HAS to check his email after a Saturday night out on the town, 1st thing he does when he gets in.

Re: Internet junkies in chilling cold turkey experiment
I don't know if I could do it if I were at home, but when away from home, I can do with it easily.
