ntl acts quickly -- a little too quick...

I gave them a call to give them my 30 days notice today (4 pm), as I'm moving to a non-NTL area. I advised them of my moving date (in two weeks time), and the nice lady on the phone asked me when I wanted my STB to be collected etc, so I set that for the day before the move. The email addresses will remain active till the end of the month, when my payment/subscription stops. She also told me that my phone would be restricted, which is good I suppose.

However, I was expecting the restriction of phone services to take effect in two weeks, not 4 hours time...

I noticed at 8 pm that I am no longer able to make calls (though I can receive them). I just get a continuous tone after dialling 4 digits. I supppose a call in the morning will sort it, but IMO it is a bit silly to have phone restrictions in place 4 hours after giving your 30 days notice, and told them you will be moving in 2 weeks.

I gave them a call this morning, and the problem was resolved within an hour. The friendly gentleman even apologised for the mistake...

Why wouldn't he mean it? Some agents are a bit incompetant, but not vindictive

Thanks.

People are going to have to understand that there are ntl staff on here who are keen to assist customers.

If we're idiots then perhaps we won't bother!

The greater likelyhood is, someone made a mistake and/or was poorly trained. Not good, and poor service, quite agree. Totally unacceptable. However, that doesn't make everyyone who works for ntl an idiot. I and others are sick and tired of having that levelled at us.

For what it's worth, as the OP, I was a little peed off when this happened, but I fully underderstand that mistakes do occur. I also posted back the next day to state that the issue was resolved quickly and courteously. As far as I'm concerned it is a one off, and I certainly don't consider any of the staff I dealt with idiots.

Re: ntl acts quickly -- a little too quick...

Thanks...though I knew you didn't think that

To be honest, what happened to you was out of order and you've a right to be annoyed and angry at the service you received. I despise poor service and my colleagues here will happily tell you how bored they get when I bang on about it all the time.

I just get fed up when others jump on such issues and refer to all ntl staff as idiots and the like....

As a company ntl should provide world class service at all times. To be fair, though it might not always feel like it, in most cases they do, but that still doesn't make it right when it goes wrong.

Mark I really do not think he referred all ntl staff as idiots - try not to assume that you and the others are having this levelled at you all the time on this forum, we have been here so many times I've lost count.

Remember NTL staff on this forum care about customers but in all proffessions there are people just there to take the money.

So lets not have all these teddies thrown about when someone comments on bad experiences with staff
