General NTL rants............
I've been with NTL for about 5 years now as they're the only ISP I can actually get..........lucky me. BT tell me that I'm too far from my exchange for a 1mb connection, no Telewest option so I'm scuppered. I love my P2P too much........
Anyway.......NTL supports Xbox Live ?? You what ?? Apparently they're an officially recognised XBLive compatible ISP as well. Stop me if that's wrong. DO NOT PAY THE EXTRA £5 FOR XBL SUPPORT COS THERE IS NONE. The service is generally rubbish anyway. Anyone on a 512kbps BT service who can host say.......8 player games can laugh all over us poor NTL 1.5mb customers who can probably host 3-4 at best before it gets all silly and stuff.
Anyone feel free to explain why the xbox's built-in connection test can give a crisp 20/20 for BT every time but a staggeringly awful 18/25 for a faster NTL connection.
Don't get me wrong.........I love the speed that I'm getting for downloading stuff. I'll be annoyed as fudge if they start capping as has been mentioned but at least the internet service is generally reliable.
My point is..........I am stuck with NTL........it's my only option for broadband and I'm pretty sure they realise it cos every time I complain, they deliberately put some geek with no clue whatsoever on the line to talk to me. Every time.........has everyone else experienced this ??
At least it was easier to set up for wireless than AOL though.......
Anyway, anyone know when I can upgrade to 3mb ?????

No, I've not experienced this.
Luck of the draw in your case, and that is too bad, nobody should have to suffer poor service.
When you say a Crisp 20/20 connection with BT compared to an ntl 18/25, what sort of speed is that, and given that you can't use BT's or any other ADSL service, where have you got that figure from?

Re: General NTL rants............
It shouldn't vary much. The amount of players you can have hosting would depend on your upload, and the majority of console owners using bb (as a whole anyway) would have 256k upload, the same as you on the 1.5mb service.
If it is really that bad, i can't see why....ubr congestion *wild wild guess

Re: General NTL rants............
OK, the 20/20 - 18/25 figures come from the Xbox diagnostic tool that's built into it. If you do the connection test to establish that you have a connection and then hit "Y" on your controller, the dialog box pops up telling you your connection specs. The number I quoted has something to do with line clarity I believe. Anyway, this is definitely what is causing me problems as I have checked with others. I tried BT a while back on 512kbps in the hope that I could get a better speed eventually but to no avail, this and talking to others with NTL, BT and Xbox Live is how I know about the comparison. As for capping, I've never experienced any problems with it to date and I DO tend to transfer quite a lot but then it might even itself out throughout the month.
I did not intend to offend anyone and I'm sure I don't refer to yourselves when I slag off NTL customer support but it just seems that whenever I have spoken to anyone there, I generally seem to know more than they do and subsequently tend to get over-frustrated.
As for satellite............no good for Xbox Live and such due to the upload limitations.......
If any of you nice NTL employees want to mention it to your superiors, feel free. I'm in Suffolk if that's of any use to ya......... I'm told your servers might need updating !?!?!?! Mean anything to ya ??
