Cancelling BB and signing up again for £8.99 deal?

As theres not much to download lately because of the summer im thinking of going down to 150K after seeing this £8.99 deal.

Is it possible to cancel broadband and then sign up as a new customer after a few days to get this deal?

Probably but you get hassle right, been disconnected for few days and having a new min 12 month contract.

yeah i was thinking of doin this...i am on 128K and was thinking can i cancel....then sign up on 600K for half price £12.99 ?? and then after three months, decreasing again to 128K.

or if this is not possible just cancelling . Then ringing up an hour later to get reconnected for £8.99?

Don't think you'd be able to decrease after 3 months - the 12 month contract would be reinstated...

I had a similar instance with Pipex recently when I moved house, they were going to charge me £58.75 disconnection fee as I had not had the service for 12 months (fair enough), but when I said that I wanted to get 1 meg DSL from them @ £34.00 per month for the next 12 months, they initially wouldn't budge, but I then explained the difference between getting £58.75 now & me going to Bulldog for my DSL, & waiving the £58.75 & me signing up for 12 x £34 for my nice Pipex 1 meg connection!! (They did waive the £58.75 anyway!)

Yes, you can change your speed - subject to 30 days on that speed.

Yup, but if you change in the first three months of a new contract, you'll lose the current half-price discount.

My mate at work was so annoyed at getting the cut price adverts in her monthly bill showing the cheaper prices for new customers that she rang ntl up. (She has the 600k speed I think) Said how dare they insult her like that after she has been a loyal customer for years and has now only got to pay 10 pounds a month for the next 6 months. She said it was a damned cheek to the ntl person she spoke to for them to send these adverts out to all their existing customers in their monthly bills when we are all paying so much more. I must say I tend to agree with her but probably like most people did not have the wherewithall to actually ring up and complain.What do other people think of her stance on this and has anyone else done the same as she did, please?

I agree with her but I think its pot luck who you get on the other end of the phone, some will back down and give you a discount others will just apologise and say thats how it is.

I have had half price Tv package for the last 18 months and still have another 6 months to run and when this is up I shall ring up and cancel and if they offer it to me at half price again for another 12 months then I will accept if not I will cancel, its just a matter of how you come across to the person on the other end of the phone.

Thats nice to know, as currently the base TV pack just isnt worth paying for. You only get a few more channels than FreeView!

last time I know someone tried that they ended up cancelling ntl didnt give in, yet I know 2 other people who got half price for trying to cancel so I still think its pot luck who you get on the phone. Also getting 2 years seems extreme if ntl are not making any money on half price packages then that seems pushing it a bit far to keep a customer I think you got very lucky there, and if there is lots of customers on similiar deals then I wonder if it affects the normal price so ntl can make it up.

It is a bare faced cheek.
I noticed this too with my bill.
What can be hard about just placing them in the envelopes of the people it would apply to? NTL are no different to your banks who offer more favourable rates to new customers, but sadly NTL cannot grasp the right way to do things.
