DNS problems today ?

Hi,

Is anyone else having DNS issues today ?
Web browsing and collecting email in outlook, ftp'ing etc are all timing out a lot, I'm routed through the poplar cache's if that helps, changing cache helps in IE but does nothing for ftp or Outlook.

Thanks

Ian

Re: DNS problems today ?

ftp and email are not affected by the webcaches anyway.

Can you more details about your connection... o/s? router? usb/enet? speed test results?

the more info the better

Re: DNS problems today ?

My details:

Windows XP Home
Ethernet connection from Samsung settop box
1 meg connection (Speeds are fine, 125k a sec as usual)

I've switched my dns servers to Colt's and it seems to have fixed it, looks like it may be flaky NTL dns servers today

Cheers

Ian

Re: DNS problems today ?

scrap that, still getting 'server not found' and timeouts, is there a problem in my area (Havering) I wonder ?

Nothing has changed in my PC, just doing my usual day to day stuff...

Re: DNS problems today ?

At the risk of banging on about this...

After much changing of settings it seems that my usual transparent proxies at Poplar are today useless (I'm currently automatically routed through 62.255.64.10 - cache7-pop1.server.ntli.net and others in the same grouping)

Manually changing to a Leeds proxy seems to fix my browsing but ftp and email is still massively slow and timing out etc - manually changing my DNS doesn't seem to help much

Has it all gone wrong in my area ? - the status page shows nothing..

Anyone else using that proxy, or from the havering area experiencing the same thing ?

cheers

Ian

Re: DNS problems today ?

Havering area too, same proxy group, and it's MISERABLE!

Have to hit every link 2-3 times before it bothers doing anything!

Re: DNS problems today ?

Just forced proxy to one of the others in the same pool - BOOM! what a difference!
The range is .4 to .10, I believe, to avoid overload, I'm not saying WHICH one I used - but if 10 is the default for here (are you sure?). then it's dead as a dodo!

Re: DNS problems today ?

Monkeybreath has told me there are no problems for my postcode.

I thank him/her for helping me.

The only option left is to call and pay through the nose for something that isn't our fault I suppose - who wants to go first ?

Why NTL can't just TRY the Poplar proxies and see that there is a problem after several of us have now reported it in this forum is beyond me however...

Cheers
