Problems with domain redirection to ntl webspace
For the last week or two, the domain name redirect I have set up (via Namesweb's advanced forwarding) to point to ny NTL space is not working properly :
<link removed>
will either not load at all, or stalls after the first few images - many people on different ISPs have reported similar results.
However If the site is accessed directly :
<link removed>
it works fine.
Namesweb can't see a problem at their end, and I've tested the redirect on space at another ISP and it works OK.
Any ideas before I contemplate trying to get any sense out of NTL about this..????
Edit: Links removed as they seem fine and are just spamming the site.

several - Mike you would have maybe got away with the failed link, but the direct one is spam, I'm afraid
There is a report on the ntl status page about problems with ntl webspace access

Huh ? In what way is it spam? it's not a commercial site, or maybe you didn't bother actually looking that far. I have had many reports from people on different ISPs that have reported problems - I was just trying to get some more info on it, and included the links in case someone could shed more light on it.
Something has changed recently that has stopped the redirect working
properly for some people (including me).
I thought I might actually get some helpful advice here instead of being accused of some terrible deed, oh well.....

For Pete's sake give Mike a break! He has a lot to offer these forums and this is no way to encourage his participation.
Mike. Your links were doctored before I saw this thread but if you are talking about the site with 'red' in the title then I too am experiencing problems with images on the page.

Actually it wasn't that site, as I was aware that some people may get uptight at linking to a commercial one, but the problem is the same.
At the risk of getting sent to the severalth level of purgatory I'll repeat the link: www.electricstuff.co.uk, the vast majority of which is an online vintage technology museum site.

Re: Problems with domain redirection to ntl webspace
Hey, wasn't that site mentioned in Electronics Weekly a while back?
Anyway, I could only see about the first ten pictures. Tried again and I can see some more. Opera reports 'sending request to www.electricstuff.co.uk...'. I've been getting a lot of this of late - and not just with NTL hosted sites - mmm...

Re: Problems with domain redirection to ntl webspace
Doesn't work from here - but as pointed out is probably due to problems with NTLs webspace. EDIT - It's coming through now, but slowly.
Have you thought about buying external hosting.
http://www.i-websolutions.co.uk/cfhosting.php
Your site is under 55Mb so the 99p / months 10.69 / year option would do you proud. It would also mean you can avoid NTLs flaky POP/SMTP and use theirs with the option of spam trapping.
MORE EDIT.

You will notice the images in this thread are loading slowly, they are coming from NTL space too.

Re: Problems with domain redirection to ntl webspace
The thing is that it has always worked, and still does work, if the domain name is bypassed (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/electricstuff)- the problem ONLY happens when the site is accessed via the domain name (which is why I posted both links) and subsequent investigation has shown that it only affects domains with Namesweb's Advanced forwarding - this apparently does some frame trickery to hide the real ISP address to make it look like a properly hosted domain.
I've yet to establish any pattern of who it does and doesn't work for, but it is clear that different people are seeing different results.
I'm still trying to chase it with Namesweb, but they say it's working fine for them, so it's hard for them to investigate further.

Re: Problems with domain redirection to ntl webspace
Yep, exactly the same probs here as you describe Mike. At my first attempt via .co.uk I got absolutely nothing. Stopped it and tried again and I can see the text and a few pix. Opera keeps reporting 'sending request to www.electricstuff.co.uk...'. Definately looks like a fowarding problem to me.

While that may be true - the fact is that we have had a number of people just spamming their sites recently - using various excuses.
Rather than remove them - I have simply converted them from links to standard text - so anyone who wants to try and help can paste the url into their browser.

While this may be true ... that is their problem and not Mike's. We have clearly demonstrated that he has a problem with his webspace (even if it may not be NTL's fault).
I always thought that these forums existed to try and resolve such issues and, given that we now know he is not spamming, IMHO I think it would be curtious to reinstate Mike's links.
Proof if you need it:

Mike, can i say there was nothing malicious intended in my post which accused you of spamming the site. If it seems that way, I apologise.
- what i saw was a link to your site, which in itself contained links to other commercial sites of yours - I take the point that the main intent of the linked site is non-commercial.
With hindsight I wish I had waited before posting as I did, as it seems you were acting in good faith in an attempt to solve your problem - a lesson I will remember, as I now regret 'jumping the gun'.
All I can add is that I did not take any action, other than my post - I didn't report your post in any other way - the decision to edit the links was made by one of the moderating/admin team.
I hope you find a solution to your problem

Re: Problems with domain redirection to ntl webspace
Froze at 40 items to go - I can't tell it's cloaked forwarded though - damn clever, if only it worked properly.
Ok from the NTL route, and then froze at 50 to when I backed up to the redirected address.
It's a pity NTL don't do subdomains, as you could just CNAME
