Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

I've got 2 email accounts, an ntl one and a Yahoo one, whilst my wife has a Hotmail account. A few months ago Hotmail was a, well, hotbed, of spam but they seem to have got their act together and it is now a spam-free zone. I have never have had any problems with Yahoo. However, my ntl account is getting worse and worse as far as spam is concerned, the sort of spam that Hotmail seem to have had no problems blocking. So, why is ntl so bad? Is it simply that looking after your customers costs money and ntl don't wish to spend any on such frivolous activities?

Simple. Ntl don't spend money on anti spam systems.

Re: Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

I have noticed a huge increase in spam on my NTL accounts over the past week or two, particularly on the primary account.

I used to have a Freeserve account and five NTL accounts that I used but got rid of the Freeserve account as it was getting an amazing amount of spam. I use Mailwasher and after losing the Freeserve account was virtually getting no spam at all and then wham, spam by the bucketful. It isn't as if I have given out any of my email addresses, posted any of them or used them to sign up for anything.

They're worse because they don't do it at all!

Re: Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

Re: Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

Spam blocking is as good as the blacklist list - IP blacklisting is VERY, VERY effective if done well - the dnsbl at cbl.abuseat.org has covered 99.9% of the hosts being used - EVERY time it's an open server on a cable system - the real answer is THEIR ISP's need to get tough!

Re: Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

what annoyes me is that i get several mails with exactly the same text from different spammers. Surely we can forward these onto NTL somewhere and get them to block future mails with these texts.

I may start sending all my spam onto ntl somewhere, maybe we should all do this then they might start to take notice of the problem

Thumbs down Re: Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

The spam on ntl is getting worse. Beyond a joke. I am now using another email address as I am totally fed up with the amount of spam I am getting to my ntl address each day. It now averages about 18 per day. Thankfully my email address is re-directable to any isp email address, so I can change when I want without having the problem of informing everyong of a change of email address.Very soon I hope I won't have to worry, as I shall be leaving ntl to return to BT and become a customer of Sky.

Re: Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

i've not heard of anything about ntl getting anti-spam software over xmas.. when this has been discused before no one has every mentioned ntl having anti-spam either..i can't believe NTL would spent any money on this until they are forced into action.. seems to be the usual NTL way..

if they have it doesn't work anyway !

i rekon we should just forward all the spam we get onto the ntl tech team or somewhere so they are forced into looking into the problem.

Would you like to explain that - I have not noticed any reduction in the SPAM my NTL e-mail gets, nor have I seen any announcements about anti-spam.

Re: Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

Only checked two out of 4 accounts that are NTLs one had 40 emails not a single one was for me or requested teh other the primary account for the SACM had 75 split between viagra, enlargements and porn none requested or for us.

Its a shambles if I could delete the primary email addy I would its the worst addy I have ever had from NTL

Re: Why are ntl worse at filtering spam than others?

Well Im pretty miffed about the amount of viruses incoming through mail but im not complaining really, Spam tbh Im honestly not getting much to it - I have a anti spam system in place but its not filtering anything but the odd korean ad I get through my mail (I signed up to a list) and sometimes they send a few extras but thats about it...

My computer is sending on average 12 mails a day on reports of virus infected messages to users who send to me:

경고 -V3Pro 2004년Deluxe은 붙인 파일안에 뒤에 오는 바이러스를 검출했다. 2004년 (검사 시간18:59:074월12일) (상태) 파일 이름 - 바이러스 이름 우편물 제목: 재: 나쁜 요구details.pif-Win32/Netsky.worm.29568(치료할 수 있는 (위로 청소하기 위하여 기입을 변경하십시요))details.pif- (구획 파일: 삭제하는)
If I could translate it to english for sending then I would... but basically it lets the user know that they have sent a virus to my system and either HTTP/POP3/SMTP/FTP filtering has picked it up, it says that the details.pif was blocked and deleted and the worm Netsky is curable by cleaning up the registry.

Any user suffering from spam should invest in anti-spam software... it helps alot :)
