They’ve been looking at this for at least 18 months now, that’s when I first heard about it.

Re: LG / VM Electric Car Charging Network plans
But broadening the tolerance to +/-15% allowed no change from the old voltage.
Voltage here is 245 and my mate over in the sticks is 260v. Halogens don't survive.

Re: LG / VM Electric Car Charging Network plans
Even with 230V AC rms, a simple voltage doubler circuit will give 630V DC.

Based on some of the pics here https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...-chargers.html
It's only a trip hazard if you're specifically out to make it one. There is no way a normal person would try and walk between the charging point and the car.

Re: LG / VM Electric Car Charging Network plans
Most VM cabinets are against the wall not near the kerb as described in the first link. More street furniture to clutter the paths. Not sure that'll work around here as cars park halfway on the road and path. Potentially dangerous voltages charging cars out in the rain, how many fatalities? Still, VM is a very wealthy global company, good for lawsuits.

I think the idea is that the street cabinets give an accessible power supply. A cable will run underground from there to the charging points. It looks like they will only be placed in normal public parking spaces. It's not going to be a case of being available for every home.

Re: LG / VM Electric Car Charging Network plans
I can imagine a lot of street fights over the points, not to mention vandalism.
