Meta tags advice anyone?

Hi guys.

I need some advice on meta tags. I spent ages putting them on my site, only for my mate to tell me that most search engines donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t really use them any more!!! Is this true?

Also, should you put tags on all your pages or just the homepage? On www.prezo.co.uk I put them on all the pages, but its hard work to update. Any advice you have would be great!

Re: Meta tags advice anyone?

I deal with a company who specialises in search engine placement for Google, advice I've had from them include: code your site ENTIRELY in CSS, try to get it as close to XHTML strict as you can, don't use tables, tables are for tabulated data (like spreadsheets), put as much as you can in external include files (including both of your stylesheets and any javascript, no idea why you're using two style tags), make sure your content mentions keywords used in your page title for relevance purposes, use styled H tags (h1, h2 etc), make sure you use text for your menu's, if you have to use images, make sure you also have a text based menu somewhere, if you're using metatags keep them on every page, even though Google doesn't rely on them anymore (other search engines/spiders do though), make sure every single image has an ALT tag too.

By no means a complete solution but certainly enough to help you improve the site's SE friendliness.
