DNS problems - Oxford

Hi,

Just got in from work, and found my internet not working. "page cannot be displayed"

Logged in to the modem and checked the event viewer, everything seemed to be connected. Event log was moaning about an invalid response received from DHCP...

Checked my router, everything seemed ok there. WAN port was up with a wan address. Released it and renewed, still same problem.

Looked at live messenger, latest version has a pretty cool diagnostics util. Was saying IP OK but DNS fails. Used my VPN to connect to work, and it connected fine (over IP) so there's clearly some sort of DNS problem.

I have set my laptop to use a different ISP's DNS server at the moment and web browsing now works. Anyone got any idea what's up with DNS?

Service went off on sunday as well, but was back within about 30 minutes.

Re: DNS problems - Oxford

turned the modem off for about 5 minutes because it was VERY hot, booted it back up and now everythings working again.

Just very odd that i still had an IP connection - just no DNS. Oh well, put it down to the weather

Thanks.
