Red Button?!

Does anyone know why Telewest's Red button on BBC is infinately slower than the red button on BBC through Freeview? Surely their fibre optic cables should run the feed at least at the same speed as an aerial? At times you push the red button and you get "please wait" for ages before the cable box just gives up responding!

I have family on ntl, and by all accounts their red button feed is even worse, so I guess we shouldn't complain as once the merger goes through Telewest will probably drop to ntl's performance

Re: Red Button?!

Connection speed isn't the only factor in how Interactive performs. There is also the matter of how powerful the box is (how fast it's CPU is, and how much memory it has). There's also the matter of how efficiently the software on the box is running.

You'll find that different freeview boxes display interactive at different speeds as well. This is because some have a more powerful CPU or more memory than others.
