For those guys, I guess this deserves an introduction
My name is Alex Brown - I've been with Telewest for 8 years (both
Cable Internet and blueyonder) and have fulfiled a number of roles on
both the technical and, more recently, product side of the business in
consumer.
I'm now responsible for the in life product management of the consumer
ISP (or ISPs as they are at present) and look forward to talking to as
many of you as possible in future. As you can imagine this makes me
kinda busy, so please appreciate that I'll do my best to help as time
permits.
One of the things I've been tasked with doing is complining a joint
Acceptable Use Policy for both blueyonder and ntlworld, and I'd like
to try and get this rolled out as quickly as possible so that we can
get the AUP/abuse/customer security team working consistently across
both ISPs asap.
Along with my colleague Fergal Butler and the locals [:-)] in
blueyonder.feedback, I wrote the current blueyonder AUP in 2003, which

While we ponder attacking this exercise, I'd like any views on the
current blueyonder AUP vs the ntlworld one, which can be found here:

What we're looking for is what you like about each policy, where you
think they work and don't work and what you think should be added and
/ or removed from either.
We're looking to build the "best of breed" user policy, while still
enabling us to protect our network and the customers on it from both
malicious and non-malicious forms of Internet abuse.
As I am sure you can appreciate, there will always be some legal
wording that needs to go into policies like these, but we're
determined to keep them as user friendly, straightforward and
transparent as possible.
I appreciate any and all feedback. Better to respond to the thread
than via e-mail in order to generate as much comment and discussion as
possible.
