Slow Downloads - GigaNews

When trying to download from GigaNews, speeds are under 100kb

All was fine last night, and i was maxing my connection out as normal

Only this morning has my speeds, been so slow.

Web downloads are fine.

Anyone having the same problem?, any recommedation on how to sort it out.

I've tried using both of GigaNews servers, tried using both on port 119.

Re: Slow Downloads - GigaNews

I am having problems with Newshosting, not that it helps you sorry.

If I use NTL's newsgroup server everything is fine speed wise, however when I connect to newshosting its dead slow. I am on 10mb, and a little stump for answers

Re: Slow Downloads - GigaNews

I've noticed the same trend. I pay a newsgroup provider for a better news service. I always use their European server and speeds have always been pretty impressive. However, over the last few days the speed has really taken a dive. When I brought this to their attention, they told me that there was extensive packet loss in NTL's backbone in the route to me from the EU server.

I've also tried their US servers but they're just as bad.

Re: Slow Downloads - GigaNews

How many connections do you run at once? I use newsbin and connect 10 times and get the full 10 meg of my connection when downloading large numbers of files

Re: Slow Downloads - GigaNews

I run 2 connections.

and usually get 400 on each one.

now i'm getting 40 on each one

Giganews support can't find out what's causing it.

Re: Slow Downloads - GigaNews

Try specifying the IP number of the USA Giganews server, you'll probably just keep getting routed to the EU one otherwise.

NTL did have big problems routing to the Giganews EU server, but I thought it was fixed, have to tried a speed test from their web site to see what speeds you are getting from HTTP to their EU server ?

Re: Slow Downloads - GigaNews

Upping the connection to 10, dosn't make any difference

Below is the 4th email i got back from GigaNews

I have to say, been with Giganews for about a year and there tech support is fantastic.

Hello

Thank you for contacting Giganews Technical Support!

When connecting to different locations you travel across many different
carriers sometimes dozens. What appears to be the issue is that one of
these carriers is accruing traffic congestion. If this is the case we would
not have much control over this. I am going to go ahead and escalate this
through the appropriate channels to look at your account more specifically.

It may take a little while to get a response back to you, but I assure you
we will get back to you as soon as possible.

If we can further assist you in any way, please let us know. Thanks for
choosing Giganews!

Re: Slow Downloads - GigaNews

have u tried the alternative ports 80 and 23 to the giganews servers ?

also, have u tried tracerouting to giganews to see if theres a massive jump at a router somewhere and also, have you tried running the speed tests on the giganews website ?
